Knuckles' fuse ran out right then.
"That thing is no Emerald Shard!!!" The Guardian echidna snapped. He lowered his gaze and his expression darkened. "It has an entirely different energy signature. It's foreign, and it's not welcome here." His voice was filled with malice, his demeanor was like some feral predator. His fists were clenched at his sides.
Rookie flinched a little, startled. He had never seen the echidna this way before.
Sonic looked at Knuckles and frowned. "Pearl, could I snag you for a moment?" He asked.

Knuckles whirled around and punched Shadow in the arm.... hard. "Do NOT touch me!" He yelled, eyes flashing with the rage of a hundred soilders.
Sonic led her a good distance away from the group. "Lay off Knuckles, ok? He trusts you enough to let you near the Emerald, but that's not gonna keep him from getting ticked off over things. He doesn't want to accept the fact that the Ruby bypasses the Emeralds. So if he acts the way he is right now again, has nothing to do with you personally. Just try not to bring it up, ok?" Sonic whispered.
