I decide to go to the plains. I doubt the culprit would stay around the place he destroyed.

You exit the charred part of the forest and enter the plains. They are much larger than you thought. A breeze picks up and you catch the faint scent of fire coming from the East, in front of you. Tall sunflowers grow in patches, shading a few peonies from the sun's current level. It seems to be setting, as the light is growing dimmer. You can't seem to figure where it is, though.

Despite night beginning to fall, I decide to head towards the direction of the fire. Though I doubt it, it could be the person who burned down the ryori's forest.

The breeze turns into a wind as you head east. The scent of fire becomes faint but you continue on until you reach a campsite with a fire that seems to have been put out a few hours ago. There are no tents around and it is completely dark.

Checking behind yourself to see if there was another path you could take, you groan in disappointment. Turning back around, you walk into the thick grove of trees for a long distance. After a while, turning to look behind you, noticing the area you once were seems to have vanished and been replaced with even more forest. The path you walked seems to also have vanished. Looking back ahead to continue you see there is no longer a path but a tree. It's knarled roots look intimidating but inviting.
Better not go near them.

I'd continue to walk deeper into the forest, walking around the tree and not going near the roots

That was... uneventful. I sigh loudly to myself, and decide to spend the night here. I gather a few sticks around the site and throw them on the dead fire. I try to set one up using friction, but after many failed attempts I give up, throwing myself on the ground grumpily. I curl up against Mel, trying to block the chilly wind.
