Appearance: Has grey wings which he has learned to hide using an assortment of magic (borrowed) and coats and the like, though he's thinking of cutting them off one day to get rid of them for good. He hates his wings with every fiber of his being despite loving the ability to fly.

Personality: Is a bit quiet when alone and tends to talk to himself when there's too much silence. When with others, he's trying to figure out friends he can acquire and use to his own advantage. He doesn't mean to, but he can be quite manipulative and put others at risk before he dares do so himself. Poking fun, taunting and teasing, and enjoying those moments when everything seems right with others, especially those that won't take offense to his fun and games, are certain things that he takes very seriosusly. When he gets close to someone, he will go to the ends of the earth to keep them safe. He tries his best to keep wounds, as well as any flaws, hidden.
Species: Fallen Angel
Abilities: Jack-of-All-Trades, Master of None: Borrows/Mimics others power for short amounts of time. The more accustomed he is to using it, the longer he can hold control over it for. He has to be within the sight of someone that has the magic and know of the magic the being holds - he's found a loophole and carries around photos of beings with magic, though the extent of the magic is always cut in half when he does so. His favorite power to mimic is healing, which he finds he needs to use often on himself. He's found that he can hold more than one abilitiy going at the same time, but it gives him a splitting headache that lingers (the effect still has yet to wear off from the last time he tried, three months ago, though it has died down, sometimes spiking whenever he tries to use one of the two again).
Likes: Other people; talking; flying; being free of cares; candyyyy; being the best swordsman he knows; chilling with friends; using words to trip people up.
Dislikes: silence; how his injuries hinder him; werewolves and vampires and pesky people; getting headaches from sugar rushes; his grey wings.
Backstory: He keeps quiet about it, but with the ways he's giving the vampires and werewolves dirty glances, we can safely suppose that he doesn't trust them. He has a bite wound on his right shoulder that he's mended to his best ability, but it doesn't seem to want to heal despite his best efforts at stitching them up and using power abilities. He tries his best to keep the wound, as well as any other flaws, hidden. He used to have a sister, but he doesn't know what happened to her when the light froze everything.

A very niche question but I was going to mention trains in one of my character's backstories. It's certainly not necessary since other means of travel work just as well, but I was wondering if they were a thing? Just have the appearance + backstory left for human boy.

Appearance: Oliver is an average-sized boy with a slender build which only show hints of his former skinniness. His hair, which is a mix of wavy and straight, is a light almond-brown, and he keeps it short and neat, soft-to-the-touch too, if you ever get the chance to touch it. His eyes--despite his status as a wizard--appear quite similar, as they both seem to be a chocolate brown. However, if you look closely, you can see small flecks of another color in his left eye, though they have not developed enough to be able to tell which. His tattoos are a bit clearer. His only tattoo is a simple but elegant design wrapping around his left wrist, and it consists of thick, golden lines curling around each other in a way that seems similar to that of a plant that is sprouting leaves and flower buds.

Personality:
Though he isn't a very skilled or experienced individual, Oliver makes up for it with his tenacity. He picks things up quickly and thinks on his feet, using those strengths to make up for his lack of knowledge--he has not undergone many years of formal schooling. He is slow to anger and deals with frustration well. Surprisingly, he does not seem all too bitter about the cards he has been dealt, and while he is not skilled with words in a manipulative sort of way, Oliver is quite the storyteller. After all, his experiences have given him a different viewpoint than most others--seeing things others would consider mundane a blessing--that makes him quite interesting to listen to. Though, as a realist, he sees things negatively more often than not.

To his friends and family, he is loyal to a fault, willing to do the insane if it means keeping them safe. Even to strangers, Oliver is quite caring--especially in the context of war--and he enjoys helping others out when he can, having been rescued out of a dark situation himself by the generosity of his mentor. Maybe being in that place sparked something else in him too, as he is a curious soul, eager to see and explore the world, exciting and unfamiliar.

While other wizards or witches may require a catalyst to focus their power, he channels magic using his mind, using it to connect himself to the world and command it. This is easiest when he is calm and focused--a state of mind that he tends to achieve through meditation--though, through training, he has developed the ability to use magic in stressful situations. Its worth noting that he does not have enough mana nor skill to use advanced magic.

Backstory:
Glenn was born into a small town that relied heavily on agriculture, reduced to a shadow of its former self by the war. In the past, it flourished due to the business brought in by those who were traveling to the nearby city that it was connected to by train, though when, in the surrounding area, money started being funneled into war supplies instead of the economy, it fell into discrepancy.

He does not remember many details of his early years before his parents enlisted in the army--and were killed, leaving the young boy an orphan--but he can still recall their faces, even though their voices are beginning to fade. A part of the growing population on the streets, Oliver was taken in by a rag-tag group of boys, some older, some younger. They took care of each other, supported each other. Sometimes, to keep themselves alive, some--often the youngest--would beg for spare change while others would work whatever jobs they could find, often fieldwork. However, one day, the eldest departed for the next city in search of work with their few savings, promising to send a portion their wages to help take care of the others.

But they never sent help, much less come back, leaving Oliver with a bitter taste in his mouths. That was the day he vowed to never abandon the others. During the winter, when food was wearing thin, he turned to thievery. With a stealthy hand and a light touch, he stole from the rich who visited the town. Out of all his attempts, only a few would lead to success, but, eventually, whenever rumors of objects gone missing arose, the police would always arrive at their door.

The story of how he met his master began in much the same way. The wizard had just arrived by train, only to find a small portion of his luggage missing. A simple spell led him to Oliver, but the man took mercy, deciding to hire him as a servant instead of leaving him to his fate. Thinking back, the old man must have seen his magic.

Because, one day, after he had finished chopping firewood to come in a start a fire only to be helped by the apprentice of one of the other mages his teacher had been traveling with, the wizard had appeared, guiding him to cast him first spell before informing Oliver of his decision to take him on as an apprentice. For almost a year now, Glenn has been studying magic under his mentor who has become a father to him.
