Blu lets herself in and walks over to the counter, happily smiling at the woman, "Hello, I'm Blu." After diging through her satchel she gently places her hand on the counter with the compass on her palm, "I have this compass, or at least I think it's a compass, but it seems to be broken. Do You know how to fix one?"

"My name is Jennis," she told you politely after you introduced yourself. Once your hand was extended to her with the compass inside, she plucked the little device from you. You watched as she held it this way and that, examining it. She took a small screw of sorts and opened it up, examining the inner magnets and gears. She hummed and closed it again. "This is a compass, yes. It is far from broken, though. In fact, Miss Blu, this compass seems to be in perfect working order."

(Not exactly a response, sorry, but I've got some questions.
-I never actually specified a hometown for Sentell... any recommendations? Notably I'm wondering how much knowledge of various other towns/cities it's reasonable for him to have just based on any travellers passing through his hometown.
-Also, how do last/family names work in this world? Like, would he have the last name of a semi-wealthy family that he could (try to) evoke and see how people react?
It feels weird to me to try acting as this character when I don't have more specific information about how he and his life experience actually fit into the grander scheme of things, haha.)

(Questions are good haha! I'll try to answer as best I can :)
- When you look at the map for Oz, on the info thread (opening it up in a new tab lets you see better), you can see several cities pointed out in Gillikin. The farther northeast you go / the closer you go to Mount Runcible, the more rural it tends to get. The busiest cities are near the center of Gillikin. Dixxi House is one of the wealthier cities, and as it's on the Great Gillikin Railway, there tends to be a lot of travelers, but they tend to mostly be Gillikinese. Additionally, if you were to go for a more scholarly and much more diverse hometown, Shiz is one of the biggest cities in Gillikin, and also home to Shiz University - the only university in Oz that accepts women. There tends to be more Animals in Shiz than many other placed in Gillikin. Neverdale is a tad bit more rural than Shiz or Dixxi House while also hosting some wealthier families. Not as many travelers pass through Neverdale. Or, you know, you could just have him be from the Emerald City if you want lol. The Emerald City is technically in Gillikin.
- Last names definitely have power in Gillikin, and he could certainly have a last name he could try to use to evoke power. I'd want more info you may have on how his family got their wealth and any important facts I should know to determine how people might react.
Don't worry about it at all! Oz is a complex world that I really only have a minor understanding of, myself lol. I mostly go off of Gregory Maguire's version, and man, that dude's writing is dry and vague at times haha. Feel free to come to me with any more questions you may have :) )

Blu snickers playfully, "Thought as much", she proceeds in a calmer manner, "But, you see, the needle stays on North no matter how I turn it", she pauses looking at the woman curiously, "Is it normal for compass' around Evora to act goofy or this one isn't supposed to point me to the North?"
(sorry for being absent and may still be slow responding; I'd also like to ask how do day/night work and is there any crossover or factors that influence other players?)

(Don't worry about it haha! I have to go to work soon, so you won't be the only one :). Day/night do pass normally - I could usually give you an approximate time of day, but I don't have it down to an exact science. Several factors can cause the passage of time, such as working somewhere, or traveling. As far as other players go, there is no crossing over - each person's story is their own, and others don't exist in theirs :) )
Jennis tutted and placed the compass back on the counter. "There's nothing special about Evora, dear. This compass will point you north when it's time," she answered vaguely, and then turned and opened a box, getting to work by putting away the knickknacks inside onto their respective shelves.

(Based on your descriptions, I think I might stick him in Dixxi House.
While writing his backstory, I guess I imagined his family as kind of a typical fairly-wealthy noble family. Their inventing knowledge is passed down through the generations, and usually one member of the next generation would be chosen to be the next leader of the family... or something? Maybe they could make things like pocket watches, music boxes, various little toys and trinkets, things that people might find useful in their travels or pick up as souvenirs for their kids or friends or whoever.
Let me know if any of that seems totally implausible for the world, haha. I'm definitely willing to keep working on it.)

(Dixxi House it is, then!
The "leader of the family" thing is totally plausible for Oz - and in Gillikin, it's likely to be passed down through males (as opposed to Munchkinland, where power is more female-based). The inventing of little trinkets and whatever also works - I just have to note that, in Oz, /all/ machines basically are called "tick tock things". So, your character could be specifying, saying he creates boxes that play music and watches and compasses and the sort, or he could generalize it by saying he creates tick tock things. It's a broad term, but one fairly used in Oz haha. But yeah, overall, this definitely works :) )

It wasn't meant that way, but it sure felt like a cold slap. It felt as everyone knew something she didn't and it made her hairs stand up. What sort of sick game were these people playing exacrly..? There was no right question to ask at this point. Blu fixed her posture and proceeded to thank the lady in a sweet voice, "Thank You very much for Your help ma'am", she put away the compass in a fluid motion, "Um, w-would You be alright with my help restocking the shelves or tidying up the shop?" Blu smiled awkwardly, "I-I don't mean... Uh... I'm sure You're perfectly capable of doing so Yourself, I just... Uh...." she continued to stumble over her words.

(I think your work time is my nighttime. x3 And I'm not too sure if I should be doing or pursuing anything particular. Or how much time should I spend on a particular thing or if you're rolling your eyes at me and 20 pages in of asking about the darn compass it'll explode into Blu's face and kill her. :'D Exploring is fun tho. Did I say thank you for hosting yet? >.<)
