You know, the mermaids should figure out asset done point that the humans who sail passed aren't dangerous to them. That they aren't going to butcher them. Then they realize that they are the monsters, because they've been slaughtering humans.

Well, if a human even sees a mermaid, it's a strong risk that they'll tell other humans, and more people, more dangerous ones will eventually come, even if all humans themselves aren't dangerous, ones who are will know

Well, there would be a ruler of the mersquids, as there's a ruler of each individual subspecies, and then there's the ruler of all merkins, but the Mersquid ruler would be part of a royal court which can make decisions for all of merkind
