He smiled at her and took the quarter cookie and the goldfish. "Thank you, Maidritt."

I ate my brother's cookie in silence. Then I started pushing objects to make a somewhat sturdy pile beneath the shattered skylight. I climbed it and peeked my head out. When I ducked back down, I told them what it was like. "They seem to be dispersing towards town. This means there will be a lot more slowly coming this way, so we might have a small window of opportunity to get off this blasted train. I can go first, to make sure it's safe." I readjusted my backpack and swung my legs, rolling on top of the train car.

Kay Colburn

Kay took the piece of cookie from the little girl. "Thank you," she said with a smile. She bite into the cookie and chewed it slowly as she watched Aislinn from her seat on the booth.

She glanced over at Chase. Would it really be such a good idea? Leaving like this? What if there is a cure? What if someone comes to rescue them? But Kay didn't speak her thoughts outloud. She glanced at the little girl. And how would she fare off the train? Kay sighed, but watched as Aislinn dissapeared onto the top of the train car. She finished her cookie and decided to climb up with Aislinn. She figured some fresh air would be good for her.

She stood on top of the train car and looked out over the vast scenery. Aislinn was right, the hosts were moving away from the train car, but there were still a lot that crowded around different parts of the train. Kay was unsure if they would make it or not. Regardless, she sat on top of the train car and breathed in the fresh air. It had felt like forever since she had been out in the open.

Maibritt looked curiosily, but still didn't dare venture out in case she fell

"I know a town is that way. Someone probably ran out to the town, and sent them out. The clustered spots there, there, there, and there are passenger cars that I know are full of people. The one over there on its side was my car. And in that direction is the engine." I look down, embarrassed. "I'm kind of a nerd."

Kay Colburn

Kay smiled at the younger girl and said, "I don't think you're a nerd at all. I think you're pretty smart."

Kay looked out over the landscape and then glanced back over at Aislinn. "If we run do you think we would make it? Or would they catch us? What about the little girl inside, and Chase? We can't leave them." Kay sighed and looked up at the sky, it was beginning to become overcast and the scent of rain hung heavy in the air. A storm was coming. The first one since the epidemic.

Maibritt looked at the sky, and her eyes widened. Maybe the storm could chop away the epidemic?

"Oh..... Yeah. About that... You see.... I'm a psychopath."

Kay Colburn

Kay glanced at Aislinn. "No, I don't think you are," Kay said softly, more to herself than to Aislinn. She sighed and was a bit startled when the first drops of rain began to fall.

"Regardless," she said, "We can't go anywhere with a storm. Let's go back inside."

She slipped back into the train car and sat down at the booth. She smiled at the little girl and Chase before laying down and listening to the raindrops fall onto the train car. It was soothing. Perhaps she would be able to get some sleep. She held her backpack close to her chest and again thought about her parents and her aunt and wondered what they were doing.

Maibritt climbed onto a booth, using a fleece blanket from her panda backpack
