If this is something that ends up sticking around until the site has grown more in the future, might it be an idea to implement a way for those of us who have bought diamonds to be able to choose whether we have ads or not? A checkbox in Account or something?

I buy diamonds regularly and would be glad of the choice - it means I won't have ads when I'm doing something which requires concentration, as I'd have bought the diamonds to be adfree, but when I'm just browsing the site/replying to pings it'd be no problem at all to having them displayed to help the site out.

No idea if this is something you'd be able to code or not - just food for thought :)

We could. We'll see how this goes and if some of you would be willing to request such an option - that'd be awesome and we would be very appreciative. But we'll see how this goes and adjust accordingly.


And btw, the ads are now live. Please report any issues you may find with them.

Not too concerned with it. I've got Firefox, with that I use the addons 1. Adblock Plus and I also use 2. Better Privacy which is set to repel any flash cookies, particularly trackers, which attempt to attach themselves. You can put up all the ads you want, I won't see them. LSOs are deleted within 1 second.

And no, before you ask, I won't turn off my ad-blockers. They pre-date your ads, for one thing and protect me when I'm surfing for another.

Krin hasn't asked anyone to turn their adblockers off. He even provided the assurance that he understands that some people will be using them out of personal preference in the original post, which I assume you saw when reading it all before coming to suggest anything to the contrary.

I'd really like this feature too, for similar reasons.

It seems the ads are tapered to your google history like facebook -because mine is full of prom dress ads- so honestly some people might benefit from the ads. Hey, I might find my prom dress.
