Well, by star i'm guessing you mean the star on the lineage? That star is to tell people that the parents of the pet is an official themed pet and that the are tagged. (if you want to know more about tagged pets and themed pets and the like, there are definitely people and threads out there that can help)

This theme that i am working on is called the Ghastly Lupora. I didn't do anything to get that theme or star. The admins of Sylestia (Faiona & Krinadon) chose this theme and brought it into the game as special pets. There are lots of other themed pets. Tagged pets are just any pet that has a tag (the writing at the bottom of their profile). The person who designed this lupora was not me, it was a lovely user by the name of Zelly :) I'm just the one who likes the design and wanted to breed a pretty 6 vis of it ^^

Sorry if that was unclear, it was a little rushed as i am a little busy atm but as with the thing about themed, tagged pets you could post a question in FAQ and i'm sure there'll be someone out there who can explain much better than i.
