He closed his eyes again, covering them for a moment with his hands before getting up. With a bit of annoyance, he shifted the curtains to close out the glaring sunlight and made both their beds. Numbskull, he thought to himself as he shifted his brother's blanket around, even though he often neglected to make his bed as well.
He managed to convince himself to wash himself up, brush his hair, and change his clothes. It's been a little more hard to keep himself together than he would like to admit after the disappearance. He made himself take a couple bites of breakfast. The plan was to check if his friend had returned to his house even if it doesn't really help with his anxiousness at all, then maybe visit his brother and go into the wilderness afterward. Maybe squeeze in a purchase somewhere in between. Sounded good enough to him. He left the house and walked down to his friend's house.

As you leave your house, the smell of freshly smoked meat hits your nose. You figure it must be the two boys, similar to your age, who decided to start up a butchery and smokehouse from an old shack by the edge of the city. It would only be a couple weeks since they announced it in the newspaper, which gained tons of popularity. As usual, they will be there probably all day selling goods.
You make way to your friends house, not seeing much on the walk. As you approach his small home, you see his parents sitting outside their door, having what looks like tea.
"Justus?" You hear come from his father, who looks like he hasn't gotten a good sleep in days, "Oh, it's good to see you boy." He continues, getting up and walking to you to give you a... hug? He usually is always so withdrawn from everyone that it almost startles you.
(Sorry for disappearing! I'm not exactly known for rememebring to actually come online nowadays-"
She nods. "I'm heading fishing," she says cheerfully. "Have a good lunch!" She files the info on the boat to the back of her mind- good to know, but hopefully it won't ever need to be used. But she suppsoes precautions are always a good thing.
She heads out of the building and out towards the sea. Hopefully she can get a good catch and then maybe there'll be fish for dinenr today or tomorrow. That would be nice.

She ignores the chatter- she's sure she'll hear all about it if it's actually juicy, and if not she really doesn't care too much. She's here to fish, not wonder over whose grand-aunt knitted whoever a scarf or whatever it is this time.
Well, alright. She won't deny she's completely uninterested, but she'd rather just listen in. At least for now. People tended to talk more when they thought other people weren't listening. Maybe ti'll be something exciting, but honestly it's probably something les-then-useful created out of boredom, as many things in life are.
She finds a spot, sets out her things, and gets to fishing.

I'm writing up a character right now, I just wanted to post this so I'd be on the waitlist

Justus pauses for a moment, before hugging him back a bit stiffly. Although his friend was one of the most important people in the world to him, he couldn't imagine how horrible it had been for them, to be a parent who had lost their child. That doesn't exactly explain why his dad is hugging him right now, but he guesses he doesn't mind.
"It's good to see you too... Um, have you heard any news about him...?"

Here's the actual character!
Name: Gina Ricci
Age: 23
Colony: Bear Colony
Personality: Gina is self-sacrificing and takes a lot on her shoulders so that those she loves dont have to. She has a general mistrust of authority and the government, not necessarily thinking theyre evil but just that people in power have no interest in helping the little guy. With her siblings she is very loving and always excited to do something creative, but she is much more cautious in public. She has a general dislike of almost everybody in Bear Colony because of the way theyve treated her family, and Gina is always cautious when she leaves the house because she sees herself as the main pillar of support for her siblings and feels like she has a responsibility to always be there for them.
Appearance: Gina has chin-length dark hair that she cuts herself and olive-toned skin. She is about 56 with a lean and scrappy build. She has gray eyes and wears simple and comfortable clothes that she sewed herself.
Backstory: (I made up some things about how Bear Colony works so feel free to change any of it that doesnt fit with your world)
Ginas parents Viviana and Andre were both in the military and she has two younger sisters Lucia and Arianna who are now 20 and 14. Viviana died in combat when Gina was 17. People have always spoken of Ginas mother as a hero who died fighting for a cause she believed in, but ever since her death Ginas father Andre has been bitter towards the military, though he still serves as a soldier. Andre was always a good dad at home, but his caustic attitude lost him a lot of his friends and put him on his commanders bad side.
2 years after her mothers death, Gina's dad didnt come home from a mission. His commander said he had bailed in a fight and was killed as a deserter, but Gina has always felt a kernel of suspicion towards that story. Because of her fathers treachery he didnt receive any compensation from the military and none of their neighbors wanted to be caught helping Gina and her siblings. Gina couldnt join the military because she didnt want to be sent away from Lucia and Arianna for long periods of time when they were only 14 and 8. Instead she took odd jobs around the city (or outpost?) and took to foraging outside of the city limits to make up for what she couldnt earn.
Lucia had always been extremely smart and took on small jobs fixing things for extra cash, though it was difficult because so few people trusted the daughter of a deserter. When Lucia was 18 she left for Fox Colony to get more training and now only returns once or twice a year (or less if travel between colonies is super difficult). Gina and Arianna have become super close the past two years living just the two of them. While Gina inherited her fathers jaded opinions towards Bear Colony, Arianna is a lot more social. That and her natural athleticism has helped Arianna make more friends and better integrate than either of her older sisters, and Arianna is aiming to follow in her mothers footsteps as a warrior someday. Shes still too young though, so for now Gina takes most of the responsibility on her own shoulders and tries her best to provide for both of them. However, now that Arianna is 14 and has a few people who might look out for her Gina has been thinking about taking longer trips away to try and find more resources.

She isnt trying to overthrow anything, she just figures that asking for help or following the rules doesnt usually yield results and she doesnt mind breaking the law to make sure her family has what they need.
