Amber awoke with a yawn. Licking her sleeping kits, she set them in the bird down nest she made. Bird down feathers were very soft, and the kits slept well. She stretched out and said "You need a female, or at least someone with experience to grow kits. I can't feed my kits and yours, but I can for at least 2 more weeks before I will only have enough for my own." Amber lay down as she said this, licking the paw she had bitten to keep from groaning earlier.

"Amber........ I can't take care of everyone....... I am only one healer............" Hirsch said.

"Hirsch, I'm fine. It's the wolf that needs help. If the female he get's is wounded, I can treat her myself" Amber said.

"There is no female I can tell." Hirsch said. "They are gone why would the kits cry like that?"

"I've seen a particular wolf, she tried to steal our food once. Taking her skill, she must be alive right now." She took a squirrel from us, and when I followed her she had taken in a family of baby cats" Amber said, and then added "The kits are hungry, let them nurse".

"Losing their mother wouldn't mean anything to them this young. For all they know, she just went somewhere." Amber said.

"Are you sure?" Hirsch asked. "What if it's not her?"

"There's nothing we can do except hope." Amber said with a sigh as her kits woke up and waddled over to her to nurse.

"Then what attacked us?" Hirsch asked.

"Do you know that attack that killed your Cian friend? I was there. Those animals came back, and they wiped us out almost fully." Amber licked her kits again.

Lint nudged the kits she nursed to their mother. They licked her nose and went with their mother, into the undergrowth. She needed to find a place to stay before those megalomaniac bears came back. She spotted a cave, but heard noises inside. Prowling closer, she listened closer.
