Calico glanced at Kaladin then saw how he looked at Selkie, Cant believe the otter died that easy? Neither do I most otters are like cats in a sense that they are thought to have nine lives especially sea otters. Calico took a step toward Douglas.
Douglas growled baring his fangs.

Kaladin caught the movement, and quickly held up his claws in warning. "As far as I'm concerned." He growled, voice quavering slightly. "You're the reason he's dead. Stay away."

Its shame really if the otter was anything like his parents he would have put up more of a fight. Calico went on.
A few of the crew look on the deck.
Mary Reed and Anne Bonnie were among that few.

You certainly dont seem upset your friend if he was one is gone. Calico noticed how Kaladin behaved.
Douglas gently set Selkie down then pulled out his sling, I will use on you Calico and you know I will.
If you harmed me my crew would eat you alive. Calico snapped his fingers and his crew appeared.
