Shadowhawk freezes the foxes mentally, then pulls out a syringe, and stabs it into Rei's wrist, before pressing the plunger. That done, he tosses the syringe aside, and plants his feet against the feline's gut, before kicking, sending the feline flying.

Shadowhawk, seeing his opportunity, grabs Silver, and lifts off, flying back toward the lab, high and fast enough that a fall would mean certain death.
(Remember, he can freeze people with his mind. There's no way to escape it. Very few people are immune to it. Rei is one of those people.)
