Prompt 3

It's been 20 years, 20 years since the war that ravished her home. 20 long years of tears as families and friends were torn away from each other... 20 years before she could make her way back. She was but a child of 6 when the air raid sirens went off. She was playing with her big brother with a blue rubber ball. It bounced into the street and she ran after it... she was knocked out so suddenly only to wake to ash falling around her, coughing on some of the debris that laced the air. her clothing was covered in filth, with her in dirt and rubble. She barely managed to crawl out to see everything, everyone she knew... gone. The jungle gym was like a gaping rib-cage with how twisted and broken the metal was from the damage the seesaw was nothing but splinters... and the swing... it was the only thing left standing, burnt and a bit bent from the impact, but still whole. her ears were ringing for hours after, wandering as she tried to call out to her brother, her mother, her aunt... no one answered or rather, she didn't hear anyone answer. she was scared, shaken and then soon found by firefighters. She was lucky that they found her, that they gave her a home with some strangers. They were kind, but they weren't her family for a few years. She grew older with them, a father, a mother, an older sister, and a younger sister. She still missed her old family, her old home. She was smart and so she was able to pass through the grades, struggling through grade school at first with the mourning in her heart, but as she grew up and focused on the good in her life, she soon aced every class, every test in her way. graduating top of her school and into collage. She became a Chemist, much like her mother was so long ago. budgeting her funds carefully, keeping good ties with her new family, but eventually it was time. She needed to know what happened in her old home. It took a long time, but she made it. much of the land was overgrown with nature reclaiming where homes and businesses once stood, except for one thing, one old, worn out, nearly broken thing... the swing set, traces of the burnt damage was fairly evident on the metal and plastic. It was there where she knelt and cried the last tears for her home that was buried in her heart, a final farewell. She was grateful for the life she had, and now she had closure on the life that was taken from her... The End
