Lucas gave the boy a look, his green eyes still narrowed to the point where he looked perpetually angry. "They're scared because they're not real birds, smart one. I've heard of them. They... they're like a league of assassins."

"And that issue must be..." Deanne frowned. "He's one of these.. fabled... Owls?"

"Indeed. We believe he is the missing link to finally crack the case. You see, several rich and influential persons have been disappearing lately without a trace. Crime rates have gone up in every city save for one." Sanders paused. "Gotham."

Ben shrugged, sticking out his tongue, "Birds, bird brained humans, eh, who cares?"

"I like this kid." Dee said, though her expression didn't waver so it was hard to tell if she was joking or not. "And vigilante plus us needed to meet here for what reason?" She asked, tilting her head up to make eye contact with the sergeant. "I mean, I don't think I'm really responsible for anything the FBI is interested in."

The sergeant forced himself not to facepalm. "You all recall the hero of old, do you not." His voice was dripping with venom. This man had only been bossing them around for a solid ten minuets and already turned out to be a sour puss.

Ben shrugged, "Uhhh I guess. There was over powered plant guy (Superman), really fast freak of science (The Flash), metal bra who could beat you up in the blink of an eye (Wonder Woman), and uhh, the bird people--"

"O--kay that's enough!" Gail interrupted Ben, clapping her hands together like 'Please shut up.'

"Of course I remember those stories." Dee said, snorting and throwing the sergeant a scowl. "So maybe explain this time instead of asking a bunch of questions?" She tossed her head back, angry for a multitude of reasons. One was that everyone walked faster than her and the other was that the Sergeant wasn't telling them anything.

"I think that's where he was getting to-"

"Shut up." Lucas interrupted again.

Chris' voice dropped to a stage whisper this time as he spoke. "Wow, someone's in a bad mood. Or wait, it's her too. And it seems like the kid is too- calling Superman an 'overpowered plant guy'. Pssh."

Sergeant huffed, "To put it plainly enough for some of your simple minds to handle. You are among the few er-- 'specialized' individuals that share common aspects with the former Justice League of America. You have all been gathered for *insert whatever the plot was here*"

There was silence for a few seconds. Dee blinked slowly, a small smile twisting onto her face as if he had made a joke. Chris blinked slowly. Lucas froze completely, his eyes wide open as he spun to face the Sergeant- and smacked Kai in the shoulder as he did.

More seconds ticked by, and then Kai raised his hand. "So, um..." he cleared his throat and pulled his glasses off, wiping them on his polo. "... you're saying we're here because you want us to replace... superheroes?"

At that exact second, Deanne let out a giggle that would be equal to peals of laughter from most anyone else. "What?"

Sergeant Sanders took a deep breath, closing his eyes for a few heavy seconds before opening them. "Hmph." He continued to lead the pack through a room full of old statutes that nearly brushed the roof, and into a smaller room with tables and chairs.

"Oh. Yay." Ben said unenthusiastically, "Who am I then? Fast guy?"

"Nah," Dee said, throwing a look over her shoulder with a small smirk. "I have a feeling you're actually 'the metal bra'." She didn't seem to care that the sergeant was already peeved with their immature behavior.

"Huh. And you might just be over powered plant. Ey! Chris could be bird guy #1!" Ben responded, clapping Chris on the shoulder with a laugh.

The sergeant growled beneath his breath about something like 'damn millennials' and took his place in front of a board.
