You are a detective. Your job used to be simple and you got things done, but you seemed to have fallen on hard times, and you dont seem to have as many clients as you had before.

Things got worse, too. At random times you would black out, and when you came back, things had changed; you weren't where you were before, people weren't looking at you the same anymore. And with all that, you couldn't even remember things, and you don't know what your body was doing during the times when you blacked out. What was happening?

Either way, you were now sitting in your dark office, brooding over the papers sprawled over your desk, wondering if you should get new lights and staring at a mysterious letter that had come to your office yesterday wrapped in a nice envelope made of brown paper. With your detective skills, you determined the letter to probably be from someone with a rather high status in society, but that wasnt the thing that intrigued you the most. What intrigued you was what the letter was requesting you to do.

The author of the letters child had disappeared, and you were to investigate.

Written in nice, little, neat letters across the bottom of the letter was the address of the mansion where she was last seen. You would need to go there to start your investigation.

Beware, though, dear player. This is more than just a mystery. Nothing is as it seems.

I tuck away the paper for later you never know when something might come in handy. I grab my stuff and head to the address

((Stuff? Please specify))

The paper fits snugly into one of your pockets. The address, however, you'd never seen before. You faintly remember that the road on the address seemed to be really far away... walking wouldn't do the trick.

Also, as you opened the door to exit your office, you hear a crack. Looking down, you discover the bottom corner of the door seemed to have cracked. Maybe apart from getting new lights you should have your door fixed as well.

(like I take my hat off the rack if I have a car I take the keys, my notebook where I write down any clues or information for a case if that's okay phone if I'm allowed to have one)

I frown and decide to get a cab or take my car if I have one I mentally write myself a note to fix the door and save it for later, first I have a case to solve!

(Just include the hat, car keys, and notebook thing xD If it's plausible I'll allow it. No phone, though, I forgot to say that this is an old style RPG)

Your hat fits nicely on your head and you keys jingle against each other as you head out of the office. Your car is outside, it's a little old and worn down, but it works.

(alrighty guess I picked the right character design xD)

I sigh with relief and get in closing the door and since I'm not sure the exact place the street is at I decide to trust my memory and instincts

(Yep :D)

You couldn't be sure of your memory these days since you were blacking out and forgetting things all the time, but you still decide to trust it. Your car grunts and sputters to life, dusty lights blinking on as you pull into the streets. You find the street, but the number of the house doesn't seem to be there. The street, however, is quite long so you could check the very ends of it.

Nothing is as it seems...those words rang out in his mind. What could it mean? Was it as it seemed? Was he over thinking the answer? Tiredly he sat back in his chair. Maybe a bit of coffee would help him thing. Standing he took up his over coat, and wallet before taking up the half a pack of cigarettes. Looking back at the letter he decides to take it as well to visit the address written across the bottom. With that he exits his office and starts towards the nearest cafe.

(Is this alright? Still trying to get used to the whole RPG format.)
