Prologue:
A shadow fell over an intricate carving of a rearing dragon, poised for battle. It darkened the floor, blotting out the sunbeams shining like amber on the marbled walls, until it was inky and dismal. A somber dragon entered, joining the previous shadow.
"We mustn't give into them, brother. The prophecy doesn't have be completed! We can defeat them early, demolish their forces before the war starts!"
"But we must consider their offer!"
"No! Control yourself. The temptation isn't too much to resist. Don't you see? They're using you."
The first shadow whipped around. The walls were once again bathed in sunlight, only this time, the rays were grim, offering up none of their warmth to the shadows, as if saying that the melancholy room deserved no warmth, no comfort, nor did the creatures inside.
"Do we really need to resist, brother? I say we give in to them, join them."
"They are corrupted! They earn your trust, and then betray you, killing you and all you love before you can realize where your loyalties truly lie. It isn't too late to turn back."
The first shadow moved, quite suddenly, and sunlight shone against claws slashing through the air. Blood splattered the wall. Clouds darkened the sun. Thunder rumbled in the distance; lightning cast an eerie glow across the sky.
"Goodbye, brother." The dragon leaped onto the windowsill, never once looking back. "I already know my destiny."

This is the prologue to my personal novel; I've spent a lot of time on this piece, but not much editing the actual novel yet, so I thought I'd submit this. it's based around a fantasy world of dragons that is inhabited by a traitor, a prisoner, and a hero. This is the portion where the sun dragon and night dragon (brothers) are fighting, at the beginning (names undecided).

........I tried, but it is a tiny bit depressing......... I don't feel like writing anymore, so I used this piece. BUT the novel does end very happily- the hero's mate had kids! So, I mean, I don't feel like fixing it, so i'm fine with not getting first on account of depressing-ness.
