Riley holds his breath, blinking as he slowly adjusted to the atmosphere. He started to get a little lightheaded as he continued to hold his breath beyond the time most humans should. Finally he takes a breath and puts his hands over his own ears, humming a song to try and distract himself as he rocked slightly.
By now loud noises and sudden Furnace things should have been normal, but Riley wasn't quite at ease with the whole thing still.

Shade rub's Riley's back gently as he rubs his own eyes with his other hands. He had an alright time seeing in the dark but sudden light made his head hurt. He kept a wing over the human boy and tried to hum for him as well, matching his notes and beats. But he was getting a headache from all the other noise, his hearing was to sensitive for this.

You could have heard a pin drop. Every single prisoner(assumably) in Furnace had clamped their mouth shut, not even daring to take a breath for fear of alerting the twisted figures below. Victoria's own breaths sounded like hurricanes, her heartbeat like a drum punching out a rhythm that could probably be heard on the surface. Some perverse element of her brain started silently singing along to the twin beat--take me, take me, take me--and she had to bite her lip hard in order to make it shut up.
The five figures below stopped in the middle of the yard, wreathed in shadow. Then, as one, they screamed. The sound made Vic's blood curdle. It was like a death cry from some wounded animal, like the noise a rabbit makes when it's snared in a trap. But it was an angry noise too--the howl of somebody who has just seen a loved one die. The shriek grated up the prison walls. Then the figures lifted their heads and Vicky saw who they were.
It was the gas masks, the wheezers, piggy-eyed and pasty-fleshed.
The wet screech came again, this time from only one of the grotesque figures, and the group separated. Two turned and made for the staircases on the far side of the prison, taking long, distorted steps, while the other three came Vic's way, eventually disappearing under the platform outside her cell. Seeing the freaks below was one thing, but not seeing them was far worse. It meant they were coming up the stairs.

Rhia shrinks back into the shadows. Her hands have subconsciously curled into fists, a small bit of power already automatically drawn to them.

Nicote, for once, did not object when Lio decided to use Nic as a shield. Then, thinking about it, Nic realized that if those things were under the Warden, Lio was safer if Nic was in front of him. Because...well, the Wardne didn't want him dead that was for sure.
But honestly, he was more concerned about Astra. Who wasn't in his cell and probably ahdn't grabbed the attention of the Warden like he had.
Then again, if these things weren't sent by the Warden....they were toast.

Riley holds his breath again, not making any noise. He tries to shrink as much as he can, greatful that Shade was there.

Astra's eye's were wide as she looked around curiously. For once even Almon didn't make a sound even though the silence was killing him. He crossed his arms and winced at the scream. Astra backed into the shadows.

He grit his teeth, wings over Riley still as he clutched his head. The screams gave him a headache, he did not like this. At all.

Aaton whimpered more. She felt a mix of fear and anger that was almost painful. She had to keep it under control. The anger just seemed to rise every day. She shook her head and kept her eyes shut tight.

From the yard outside came a buzz, then with a sharp crack and a shower of sparks from the top of the prison the lights went out. Fear gripped both Vic and Jack, the knowledge that those things could be right outside the cell. But seconds later the prison was plunged into a pool of bloodred color again as the electricity came back on.
Vicky chewed her lip furiously, desperate to know where the gas masks were. Finally, she could bear it no longer. As quietly as possible, she lifted the covers from her bed and climbed out. The squeak that the bunks made seemed as loud as the siren.
From somewhere below another unnatural shriek cut through the red night, this one followed by a mournful wail that was painfully human. The wail turned into a word, one spoken again and again and again like a mantra. "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no."
The lights cut out again, the sparks that fell from above like a miserable firework show that did nothing to illuminate the prison. Victoria took comfort in the darkness, getting onto her knees and crawling to the door.
With an electronic hum the lights rebooted. It took her eyes a second to adjust before she saw movement on one of the levels on the other side of the prison. She counted upward, noting that one of the hideous wheezers was on level five. She watched it make its way slowly past the cells, no sign of life from any of them as their occupants shivered beneath their blankets.
