The wolf's hackles raised as he went to the door. "Who goes there!?" He barked in a rather gruff tone.

"It's me Shadow." Shadow said.

"State your business here." Myles said seeing the small fox cat in his arms. Most likely his, no doubt actually. "What do you want with Jane?"

"Um........... never mind........." Shadow said. Shadow went into the healer den and placed the fox cat down in the nest. Shadow runs to Maribel.

What was that all about? Myles cocked his ears to the side but simply shrugged and went back to sit with Jane. Part of him couldn't help but wonder if the animal had left the child behind or not. "I'll be back...I'm going to go get some...water." The wolf took the turtle shell of a drinking cup and exited the den. The cat had first gone to the healers den. Sure enough he found the small kit there alone and cold. "Hey there..." The wolf said picking her up gently. "Shh now there's no need to cry." He smiled holding her close to his warm fur. "There now you're going to be all nice and warm." He wagged his tail as he fetched the water and returned to Jane. "Here." He handed her the water and presented her with the small kit.

"What is this?" Jane asked.

"Maribel I need to get you back to camp! Something isn't right there....." Shadow said when he saw Maribel/

"The cat had it...he just left it here." Myles answered. "Your the only one with pups so I thought you could feed it...."

The fox was stone cold and stuff at this point. She didn't stir in death.

Shadow sat down holding Maribel close to him. "Why........... why did you............. why................" Shadow cried. He looked into her sightless eyes and he could feel the fluttering beat of her heart was gone. Shadow knew she was dead....... but why? Why was she dead?

"I don't want it to die so..... I will." Jane said.

Myles wagged his tail as he handed her the kit so it could eat. It nuzzled into her fur as it drank. "What are their names?" He asked looking at the other pups.

Eyes peered at him from the woods. "Is something the matter friend?" A sweet voice asked from the brush.

"No, the higher one" She said.
