You entered through the hole. The ruins were of a church, there were still the remains of rows of seats and the altar. Obviously, this was not the mansion mentioned in the letter you received about the missing child.
Turning around, Tantei felt a bit lighter, knowing that this wasn't the place he turns to check the other houses on the street.

You are deep in the dark forest now... There are no other houses. The other houses are back the way you came. There is only the main road and the smaller road that you just explored to the old church.

Trying to find the old path he came from, Tantei backs onto the main road. There are a lot of houses, but which one.

Err... Maybe I'm bad at narrating, maybe I wasn't clear. Let's have a quick recap.
You were dropped off on a road at the edge of a forest. The road goes both ways; into the forest, and sway from the forest. There are a lot of houses lining the road going away from the forest. You chose to go into the forest, and after a long way in, the road split in two, you chose the small path. But after exploring, you came back to the place the road split. The main road still goes deeper into the forest.
So either you continue deeper into the forest on the main road or you back out of the forest. Remember the coachman told you the mansion you're looking for is in the forest.
The doors were broken down, but they were closed, although there was a small gap between them. Nothing else of interest.
I enter the mansion

(maybe i'm just kinda bad at understanding stuff, sorry about that!)
Tantei turns to head deeper into the forest, perhaps it wasn't such a good idea not to bring some sort of light.

It seemed like this mansion had been abandoned and nobody was home - inside, you could see a pair of broken down double doors to your left, a pair to your right, and straight ahead, a grand staircase that had seen better days. A dusty old lamp sat on the banister of the staircase, somehow it is lit.

((I should be the one apologising for not making things clear, apologies. I will try to be better.))
You reached a pair of crooked iron gates, one of then hanging off of its hinges, allowing you into the garden beyond. The garden didn't look any better, it was full of dead weeds and other withered plants. In the center of the place, there was a broken down mansion that had seen better days.

You found yourself in the hallway again. Emily had told you where to go to begin the games, so you should probably hurry.
Although, you hear sounds of crying from the room across of the one you'd just exited.
I shrug off what Emily said and check the room but quickly.

The door is unlocked, and opens silently. Inside is the same type of room as yours and Emily's, a person, a man, is sitting on the bed facing away from you, and they seemed to be crying. They wore a beige cap and a ruffled pair of shirt and pants along with a small jacket. Next to them on the bed was a flashlight.
