Sorry, Enyo, I never answered your question: you may have as many characters as you like, as long as you are able to keep track of all (read: most of) them.

Yes, Galadriel is a Noldo (as well as part teleri and vanya), and she one of the greatest of the elves who ever lived. Actually I was thinking that most of the elves that could re-forge the rings were already dead, but for some reason I didn't think about her. It's true that she could probably do it!
If someone tricked her, they need to be a very good manipulator, considering of how perceptive she is!
A mix of OC and canon characters would be nice. What you suggested, OC as main characters, canon ones in background is fine with me.
I agree, Sam is the true hero of the Lord of the Rings, without him Frodo would never have survived! (though there are many heroes in LOTR, if we think about it)
For Frodo (Sam's son) yes he's supposed to be married and have a child. So maybe we could use his son, who would be Sam's grandson (he would still be a child at the time), or we could use one of Sam's other sons, he had plenty and we don't knowa lot about the life of most of his other children.
((Yes, Tolkien did many things beside writing about Middle-Earth, like translating ancient texts, teaching linguistic or chasing his neighbors dressed as an Anglo-saxon warrior. :p. I think I've read almost everything. Once you read the other books it's ever more confusing, because some texts are contradictory, and he changed his mind a lot about some characters x) ))

So we're having OCs as mostly the main characters?
And where are we making all this happen?
Also who is playing which characters?
((I know how confusing all that stuff was! If you ever read Return of the Shadow, I think it was, it was just a bunch of pieces of the drafts of Lord of the Rings, and originally, Aragorn was a hobbit that wore shoes. It was hilarious))

((Yes, Trotter! He is fun but I love Aragorn the heir of Isildur, and I'm happy he made that change! And do you know that at some stage, before he even started to write LOTR, Sauron was an evil cat named Tevildo?))
I think that for OC we can play what we want as long as we keep it believable, there is no reason to fight for that (though I guess we should just ask the others if our OCs are fine especially if two OCs are supposed to be related).
For canon characters, I guess we'll have fight :p
( considering the plot a lot of canon characters could potentially be involved, so maybe we won't have to fight too much and we'll all get to play characters we like! Am I allowed to annoy you with the re-embodiment of elves? )
I think we should decide where and when we start. I'm fine with starting at Sam's departure to the Undying Lands, should our characters be in Middle Earth and want to follow Sam's son there (either because they want to stop him thinking it's a bad idea or because they want to see the Undying Lands), should we have some characters who are already in the Undying Lands, or should our characters stay in Middle-Earth for now?
We could even have characters in different places, if we do that we can say where our characters are in the posts to not make it too confusing.

*gets sword out* I'm ready to fight over characters!
If Sauron was indeed an evil cat, it would be quite hard to take him seriously. People would be like, "That's our all-powerful enmy? An evil Balrog Kitty?"
A lot of his stories do contradict each other. The movies go aagainst he books a good deal, too. It would be nice if movies followed books more. Like in the book, Aragorn's sword was only broken in two.
I think we should have some characters in Middle-Earth, who are supposed to be there, and characters in the Undying Lands who have already travelled there (Galadriel, Celeborn, etc.)

*draws bow* If you want them, come and claim them! *cracking up laughing*
Okay, so by this time (60 ish years after Frodo left?) there would be Pippin and Merry, Aragorn, Arwen, Legolas and Gimli, Eomer and I'm not sure about Eowyn, Faramir (I don't think he's dead yet) and Celeborn. Those are the major canon characters still in Middle Earth (Thranduil's still there too, but I don't think he's all that important to this). Elrond, Galadriel, Gandalf, Bilbo and Frodo have all gone across the Sea, and whoever the guy who guarded the gray havens was went across too I think. And all those thousands of elves that left during/before the war with Sauron.
And obviously we have to have a bad guy, who is probably an elf, because them and the wizards are pretty much the only ones powerful enough to forge the ring again.

Do you think I'm afraid? *comes with a sword, a shield, a bow and arrows, many hidden daggers, and wearing a mithril armor*
That's why Sauron as a kitty would be brilliant: everybody and nobody would take him seriously, but he would still be a evil dark lord who would not hesitate to kill and torture his enemies. XD
(I now imagine Morgoth petting Sauron in the form of a very very cute fire kitty, and playing with him x) )
I wished the movies followed the book more too (even if the Hobbit movies bother me a lot more than LOTR). By the way, are we following the movies or the books for the RP? I guess it wouldn't matter for the most part as it's set up after LOTR, but just to know.
I think Eowyn could still be alive if someone wants to play her, since we don't know when she died and her brother is still alive. If she is, she would be old, like him. I guess canon children would be alive at that time, too (some of them could even be main characters, considering we don't know anything about most of them except for their names). A lot of minor characters could still be alive as well. If we go by the book, Celeborn is still in Middle-Earth, as well as Cirdan the Lord of the Grey Havens, and Rivendell would be ruled by Elrond's twin sons, Elladan and Elrohir. For the Undying Land, I was half serious, considering elves can canonically get reborn, is that allowed in the rp to have reborn elves? And will we encounter maiar and the Valar?
So, who do you want to play? I have some ideas, but I'm not 100% sure yet. I was too busy looking for my weapons to think about it :p

*builds mithril fortress with impassible traps and herds all canon characters inside* <evil laugh> They're all mine now!!!
((sorry it took so long to build my fortress))
Sauron: Do not pet me.
Morgoth: But you're so cute. Also, you have to do whatever I tell you.
Sauron: Meow. Why?
Morgoth: Because I'll feed you to my spider whose name I cannot spell. (Ugnoliant? Ungolient?)
Sauron: *gulps* Okay, boss.
Yeees! The hobbit movies drove me crazy. Why, oh why, can't we have strong female characters without having to pair them off with a male? And why, oh why, can't you just FOLLOW THE BOOK?! ((Thank you for listening to my mini-rant))
I wouldn't mind playing Eowyn if no one else wants to. Random side note - I'm Eowyn and I'm trying to pull one of my other LOTR-obsessed friends into playing the WItch King. Though no one can be more obsessed than I. ((Oh yeah? you want to fight that point out?)) For characters like Celeborn, Cirdan, and the others, I'll let you two fight it out. As for elves being reborn, as Enyo mentioned, who would you have as a reborn character?
As for canons, my top pics are
- Sam
- Eowyn
- Aragorn
- Legolas
- GANDALF!!!
- And... uh... I'm sure I'll think of more.
-------------------------------------------------
Random crazy stuff you may or may not know:
Tolkien died in 1973. Reverse that number at you get 3791. Sound familiar yet?
Three (3) Rings for Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven (7) for Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone
Nine (9) for mortal men doomed to die
One (1) for the dark lord blah blah blah (no, you're not important, Sauron; suck it up and deal with it)

I was half-asleep when I read this... Chasing his neighbors dressed as an Anglo-Saxon warrior?!?!?!
Also, I am Arrow, just with a new name. ((I considered Elessar... but my friend (the same one I want to be the Witch King) said most people wouldn't understand it and would think that I'm weird. Well, I am weird))

Oi, let them out! *claws at gate of fortress anyway* For canon characters I would pick:
Legolas (go ahead, fight me)
Frodo
Elrond... and I can't think of any more that I'm familiar enough with to play, but I've got a Ranger OC, a hobbit OC, and a couple of elf OCs as far as non-canon characters.
Also if nobody wants to play the villain, I will gladly take them.
((Cats can be very evil. I have three and they're very sweet but their CLAWS. I can rant on that any day.
The new name is cool too, it just takes a little getting used to, and honestly I've seen some names that Elessar isn't all that weird comparatively (I actually really want to change mine, guess we're all weird here lol) ))
