can you gene test them? Id be willing to dump money but only if they are teated and I can see they don't carry traits that would ruin my genetic pool.

The second Generations are 1 trait pets with identical or nearly identical parents from Regular essences. Look at the parents, silly, there is no inbreeding on the second generations...so I'm not going waste game cash to get them tested.
For higher generations just check linage, as long as it says a pet has no inbreeding, you should be fine. Most of the upper gens are priced for resellers anyway.

often times hidden traits are not so obvious though. For example I had this one lune that somehow acquired valentines lace as visible, even though both his parents had it hidden (underneath a dominant vis) for at least... 5 ? generations in a row. When I did look through the lineage, the valentines lace vis was so far back that the likelihood of it being in the gene pool was something ridiculous like 1%
The only way to most accurately verify a masked hidden (not talking about carries here) is to genetic test.
I was able to genetically test all my pets for free before I got my scanner.
