The Kid is just a title they can be any age. Just remember that an eight year old is not likely to survive without an adult. They can be any age as long as the back story explains how they survived.

No. Just no.
She fits into small spaces very well and is very agile. She learned many survival skills from her father, a zoologist (think steve irwin type)
Mouse is very afraid of dark places, and is cautious of other people
Nyctophobia
She is more focused on surviving than fighting. In the case of a fight, shes use what was in her environment like a tree branch
She has a bear shaped backpack with
-a sock monkey named Noomy *nobody knows how or why it has that name*
-a box of matches she found
-rope
Shes the kid of the group (literally and figuretively)
