Chapter 8
An Old Friend

Sam's mind wanders once again as they are traveling to the ravine they finally get there and... Wait... They freeze, I was supposed to go to Mt. Ogin! Sam facepalms at the realization. They have let their mind wander and they instinctively went in the direction of the ravine, stupid! They cringe at their mistake and decide that they should let off some steam by smashing a few boulders. They hop down to the bottom of the ravine and look for some boulders to smash. Alas, they could find none.

Suddenly, they feel the ground rumble followed by the sound of falling rocks.

"Watch out!" someone warns, then it is followed by a scream.

Sam looks up in alarm and sees someone falling down into the ravine, it seems the the platform they were standing under had crumbled from beneath their feet.

Sam made quick haste and wall jumps toward them, propelling themselves with the weight of Roch.

They put their arm around her waist and carry them to safety at the top of the ravine, they put her on the ground gently as soon as they were out of harm's way.

Sam looks at the dark skinned girl, she had a simple green T-shirt and pair of blue pants, though, Sam found it a little peculiar. But they weren't concerned about that right now. "Are you alright?" Sam asked.

"I-I'm fine, thank you," she said shakily.

"Why were you near the ravine? Don't you know it's dangerous?" Sam asked in confusion.

The girl didn't answer.

"It's-"

"What were you thinking pulling a stunt like that with me on your shoulder!? Have you gone mad!?" Sera exploded.

The girl looks at Sera in surprise, as if she has never seen a talking animal before.

"Calm down, Sera-"

"I could have died!" Sera interrupted.

The girl seems to be amused by Sera's squeaky out burst.

"It's not funny!" Sera continues.

"Well, you didn't die, whats to complain about?" Sam chuckles.

"But I could have!" Sera continued.

Sam turns to the girl, "Anyway, please be more careful around here, I'm not always here to catch people falling."

The girl nods and thanks them again, then heads north. Sam heads south-east to Mt. Ogin. They guess it was good that they let their mind wander, or else the girl would have become a pancake. Though, something about her seems familiar. They stop as it hit them, they have met that girl before, years ago, they turn around to see the girl, but she was no longer there. They continue to face south-east, trying to process this. Sam's old friend, Hope, has come into this dimension.

:3 Im kinda hyped for this chapter. 83 Mostly because I am listening to awesome Homestuck music as I am typing this. :3 The other reason is because of Hope. So Im am going to stop blabbering and get on to Chapter 9.

Chapter 9
Hot Headed

After that unexpected encounter with Sam's old friend, Hope, they have traveled south east to Mt. Ogin and they now stand at the base.

Sam looks for a cave to enter through. They find one consealed by something that look like Elder bushes, just with red berries. Sam enters through the cave, as they walk it gets darker, but that's no problem for Sam. They concentrate on how their footsteps echo against the walls.

After a few minutes of walking in complete darkness, they see an orange glow, and as they get closer, the temperature rises.

They make it to a spacious room, the cavern roof is about 50 feet high with orange yellow rocks sticking out. Sam looks down at the pool of magma that takes up most of the floor area. They can see something swirling in it, but they don't know what.

Sam looks at the center of the pool, a stone platform with a pedestal is seen, something glitters from it, but due to Sam's darn nearsightedness, they would have to get closer to see what it is. Luckily a fairly narrow stone bridge connects the platform and the edge of the magma pool. It's better than no bridge at all.

Sam carefully begins to shuffle side-ways onto the bridge and toward the platform, concentrating their gaze on their path ahead.

All this heat is starting to get unbearable, they hope to get the sword and get out as quickly as possible.

They finally get to the platform and Sam can clearly see the sword and a matching scabbard, resting on the pedestal. The sword is in a, unique shape and is glowing orange from the magma, and the scabbard is blood red with rubies on it in a flame pattern. Sam reaches to grab it's hilt until...

"Keep your dirty thieving claws off of Brander you no-good two leg walking surface dweller or I am going to roast you to a crisp and feed you to my clan!"

A small, orange, dragon-like creature that is only slightly smaller than Sera hops onto the pedestal and slaps Sam's hand away with their whip-like tail.

Sam retracts their hand in surprise and rubs the mark on their hand, Oh great, another tiny guardian with an attitude.

Sera just simply rolls her eyes.

"Such a sharp tongue for someone of royalty," Roch remarks.

"Royalty?" Sam asks in confusion.

The little dragon scoffs, "I scoff at your ignorance, surface dweller. I am Queen Nya, of the Pylemader Clan," Nya proudly announces.

You don't act like a queen. Sam thought, though, they don't want to say it to her face, something about her intimidates them.

"Don't be silly, you are not a queen yet, you still have the title of 'Princess Nya'," Roch corrects.

Nya seems annoyed by Roch's words, "If you were not in a hammer, I would have had you executed for that statement. No questions asked."

Sam couldn't help but smile in amusement, they glance at Sera, who was just looking at the sword.

"I am sorry, Princess-" Sam began.

"Queen," Nya corrected.

Sam resisted the erge to say 'Whatever', because they thought that would be rude. "Queen Nya, we need that sword, 'Brander' was it? It is very important that you let us use it," Sam explained.

"Brander is a 'him', and no, you cannot use him in whatever scheme you are planning," Nya replies hotly.

Sam rolls their eyes in frustration, this heat is starting to get to them.

"I can't believe you are so thickheaded! Would a thief be able to wield any of the Four and it's powers!? Only the Chosen have that ability and Roch wouldn't have been able to talk to you in the first place if they were! Your title has blinded you from any common sense that may have remand in that ginger-scaled head of yours!" Sera lashes at Nya, "And with you stalling to give them Brander, hundreds could be lost, because of your ignorance! You are a royal pain in the-"

Sam forces her mouth shut before she could say anymore. They look at Princess Nya with wide eyes, expecting her to be furious.

But Nya wears the same astonished expression as Sam, and is staring at Sera, with absolutely nothing to say. The silence remains for a couple of minutes, with nothing but the sounds of bubbling magma.

Sam looks at Sera, she looks a little calmed down, and gives them a look. They guess they should probably let Sera talk now. Sam lets go of Sera's snout.

"I-I..." Nya can't find any words to say.

Sera looks at her, waiting.

"I am sorry, I have misunderstood the situation," Nya apologies.

"You are forgiven," Sera simply says.

Sam is so relieved that the conflict was defused, surprisingly by Sera. Sam has a new respect for her ways.

"So, now that you have been enlightened, will you let us take Brander?" Sam asked carefully.

"Of course, but I am not allowed to leave Brander-" Nya started

Sera opens her mouth, about to make another retort.

"I am not finished," Nya interrupted.

Sera shuts her mouth.

Nya continues, "I am not allowed to leave Brander, so I am going to come with you."

Sam raises their eyebrows in surprise, "That's fine with me, I guess." Sam grabs Brander and the scabbard, they expected the items to be hot, but they weren't for some strange reason. Sam sheaths Brander into his scabbard and clips the belt part around their waist.

Princess Nya flies onto Sam's left shoulder and perches.

Sam shuffles across the bridge once more, they notice that there are smaller Pylemanders peeking their heads out of the magma and watching them as they made their way across.

They get to the edge of the pool safely and go through a different tunnel than the one they entered through. It gets cooler as it gets darker.

Sam is happy with the cool air, they touch Brander's scabbard with their index finger, since they are hold Roch in that hand, and wonders who might be Brander's Chosen.

Chapter 10
Nothing But Exposition

Sam has finally arrived at Arcnic Village once again after their trip to Mt. Ogin. They would feel tired after the journey, but too many exciting things happened recently for them to feel anything. They almost feel, giddy. Which is a rare feeling now-a-days, since every duty takes up a lot of energy.

Sam decides to visit the Healer to show him Brander and Princess Nya. They head for the Healer's hut.

Princess Nya takes in the sight of the village, "What are these strange brown columns with green rocks on top of them?"

"Those are trees, Nya," Sam answered, "Have you never seen plants before?"

"What are plants?" Nya asks.

"I'll take that as a 'no'," Sam concluded.

"And why is there a gigantic Solarus Gem* in the roof? Aren't there more?" Nya continues.

(*the gems that were seen in the cavern roof one chapter ago.)

"That's called 'the Sun' and that's not a roof. That's called 'the sky'. And there can be more when it gets darker, those are called 'stars'," Sam explained.

Nya continues to look around, "The surface is an, interesting, place to say the least. Wait, it gets darker?"

Sam chuckles softly.

They finally get to the Healer's hut, Sam knocks on the wooden oak door and waits for a response...

Sam waits, "..."

They hear an explosion from inside.

Sam and Sera exchange awkward looks, then they silently agree to visit the Healer at a more reasonable time. But before Sam could turn to leave, the door opened to reveal the Healer standing at the door, with his face covered in some sort of purple powder, the same shade of purple as his dialogue.

"Eh heh... erm... sorry about that," Sam apologies awkwardly.

"It's okay, it was bound to happen anyway," the Healer consoled. He looks at Princess Nya, who has a disturbed expression on her face. "And who might this be? A creature of fiery?"

Princess Nya straightens up with her chin held high, "I am Queen Nya, leader of the Pylemader Clan," she announces proudly.

The Healer raises an eyebrow suspiciously, "Do queens not wear crowns, or does the queen's rebelliousness show no bounds?"

Nya struggles to make a valid excuse for having no crown.

"Anyway, all of you can come inside, even the 'Queen' with high pride," the Healer steps out of the way to let them in.

Sam walks in and breaths deeply as the strong aroma of herbs in detected.

The Healer walks over to the same round wooden table from last time and beckons Sam over with a hand gesture, Sam comes and sits in a chair by the table. Sam remembers what happened the last time they came to talk to the Healer, they hope that Sera doesn't try to pull another stunt like that again.

The Healer goes to wash his face before joining Sam at the table, he sits down in a chair across from them with his fingers intertwined, waiting for Sam to tell him about the little trip.

Sam explains what happened during their trip to Mt. Ogin, though, they purposefully excluded the part about them accidentally going to the ravine and meeting their old friend, he wouldn't understand, and they were a little too embarrassed to admit this mistake to him. It's too personal. The Healer raises their eyebrows when Sam skips the part, as if he knew they were leaving something out, but he didn't press them. Sam was glad for that.

When Sam finishes their little story, the Healer straightens up and separates his fingers. "I'm glad that all has went well, but now you have a powerful rage to qwell."

"Right. When is it coming?" Sam asks.

The Healer simply shrugs.

"You can't be serious..." Sam says in disbelief.

Sera squints, "The lighting is kind of bad," she looks at Princess Nya, "Mister Healer, what color is she?"

Nya seems puzzled by her question.

The Healer also seems a bit perplexed, "Well, she..." he stops himself as soon as he sees where this is going, "Did you really think that trick would work twice on me?" he gives Sera the stink-eye.

Sera laughs and answers, "I wasn't expecting it to work at all, but it worked once. I couldn't help but try it again." Sera gives a big, trolley grin.

The Healer simply rolls his eyes and lets them out the door.

Sam looks at Sera, "Again? Really?"

"I had to try just in case," Sera defended.

"Sera..." Sam simply sighed and watched the sun set behind the trees.

Sam feels a little shaky from that conversation, explaining things to people always made them feel a little weird. The feeling grew, Sam was confused by this, until they realized that it wasn't them, they can feel the ground beneath them vibrate.

The army has come.

Chapter 11
Cascade

Sam senses the stomping of the army through the ground, There are so many, Sam thought.

"I have a plan," Roch told Sam, "the best place to do it would be in front of the Inn."

Sam goes to find the Inn, which wasn't too far from the Healer's hut for a reason.

"Unsheathe Brander and combine my power with his," Roch commanded.

Princess Nya and Sera take cover on the porch of the Inn.

Sam was surprised by this, they didn't know they could do that. They guess combining somehow lets one Chosen to control more than their own weapon. Though, Sam isn't quite sure how to do that.

The rumbling becomes more violent.

"Just do what comes naturally!" Roch exclaimed.

Sam still isn't sure on what to do, so they just do the first thing that pops into their mind. They raise Brander and Roch up above their head so that the blade tip and hammer head touch, and focuses.

Through Sam's understanding of element combining, they focus hard, trying to will a force from the west of them.

The sound of marching can be heard now.

The two weapons glow, green and orange.

Sam looks ahead to see a tidal wave of sand rushing through, though it harmlessly weaves between the buildings, gardens, and livestock areas. They can see a couple of panicked Crokos in the sand, and then the sand retracts like a wave at the beach, carrying back all of it's sand and the Crokos it claimed with it.

And it suddenly became quiet. Sam lowers Brander and Roch. Wow, Sam thought, exhausted.

They struggle to stay upright as their head spins, their vision becoming blurry.

Sam thought they heard Sera call their name, but they weren't sure. All of a sudden, the ground rushes up to meet their head, then everything goes black.

Chapter 12
Reunited

They feel like they are floating, as if suspended by the darkness itself. They hear nothing but the faint sound of their own heartbeat. They feel nothing, no pain, nothing at all. Is this what death feels like? Simply floating in nothingness? But their heart is still beating, so they must be alive. Sam couldn't remember how they got there in the first place. They left the Healer's hut, then... the army... did they defeat them? They can seem to recall it.

Sam awakes with a start, pulling themselves out of the darkness. They were in the Inn for some reason.

"T-The army! I-I..." Sam looks around in a wide-eye panic, they notice their hat wasn't on their head.

"It's okay, you got rid of them, remember?" says a familiar voice.

Sam looks to their left and sees their old friend, Hope.

Sam was surprised to see her here, they thought they went north to Aurora Forest. What was she doing here?

"Oww," complained a squeaky voice.

"Sera?" Sam looks around the room and sees Sera at the foot of their bed, holding her head with her front claws. "Are you alright?"

"You propelled me onto the bed frame and made me hit my head!" yells Sera.

"Oops..." Sam purses their lips sheepishly.

"I told her not to sit on your chest, but she did not listen," Princess Nya sighed.

Sera glares at Nya.

Sam reaches around for Roch, but can't seem to find him. "Uh, where's my hammer?" They ask Hope, starting to panic again.

"Hammer? Oh, right," Hope walks up to a brown cloth propped up against a wall and shows it to Sam.

Sam takes it and unwraps it to find Roch and Brander inside. They sigh with relief.

"I'm guessing they are very important to you," Hope says.

"Yeah," answers Sam.

"You should be more careful next time," Roch's words echo in Sam's mind, "but, good job anyway."

Sam smiles.

"So, um..." Hope seems to want to ask something.

"Yeah?"

"Are you, like, some sort of wizard?" Hope asks.

Sam couldn't believe what she just asked, they burst out laughing. "No, haha, I'm no wizard. What kind of wizard doesn't use wands?"

"Good point," Hope agrees. "My name is Hope by the way."

"Yes, I know," Sam replies.

"What?"

"U-uh I mean, that's a really nice name," Sam stutters.

"Nice catch," Roch says sarcastically.

Oh hush up, Sam tells him off. "Anyway, it's nice to see you again. You can call me 'Sam'."

"Okay, Sam," Hope smiles.

Sam smiles back.

Sera clears her throat loudly.

"Oh, sorry, buddy," Sam apologizes as they flip Sera over onto her claws.

"You should be," Sera says sourly.

"Is she always like this?" Hope asks.

"Pretty much," Sam replies.

"I am right here, I can hear you talking about me," Sera says in an annoyed tone. "Don't talk about me as if I'm not here."

Sam started thinking about something. I can't believe that took all of my energy, if that little thing took that much, how am I supposed to prevent Crocius's return by myself?

"Sam?"

I would need to find the other three Chosen, that's the only way. But how do I find them?

"Sam!"

Sam is snapped out of their thoughts, "Huh what!?" they exclaim, startled.

"Is something wrong, Sam?" Hope asks with concern.

"Oh yeah, yeah, I'm fine. I was just thinking about something," Sam answered.

"Huh, I used to have a friend who would get distracted like that," Hope says, looking a bit down.

Was that someone me? They thought to themselves. "Anyway..." Sam starts, and gets up and out of the bed, "It really was a pleasure talking to you, but I need to go somewhere."

"Where are you going?" she inquires?

"That is none of-" Sera starts.

"Serta Town," Sam interrupts "Why do you ask?"

"Oh, no reason, I was just curious," Hope answers.

"Alright." Sam puts their hat on, they feel a little more secure.

Sera jumps onto Sam's boot and climbs up onto their left shoulder while Princess Nya perches onto Sam's right shoulder. Sam grabs Brander and snaps on the scabbard and grabs Roch in their right hand.

"Well, I hope I see you again soon," Hope says.

Oh man, this is perfect, Sam thought, "Well I Sam I see you soon, too," Sam says as they grin, "Ah?"

Hope just stares at them for a few moments, then bursts out laughing. "That was brilliant!"

Sam laughs with her, Sera just face-claws* and Nya groans.

(*Like "face-palm", just with claws, lol.)

"That was terribly hilarious," Roch commented, Sam can hear him laughing as well.

"Haha, well, I better go now. See ya," Sam says as they walk out the door.

"Goodbye!" Hope calls after them.

Sam grins happily as they walk out of the Inn, they haven't felt this happy in years. Or laughed so hard in years. They were glad to talk to her again, and they truly hoped to see her again real soon.

Chapter 13
A Journey Begins

Sam was at the village's market place where they were selling different varieties of animal produce and fruits. They thought that it might be a good idea to stock up before the journey, because where they're going, there wont be any fruit baring plants that they can just pick on the way.

Sam counts the coins in their small, brown, cloth money pouch. a couple copper coins and two, dime sized platinum coins. It wasn't much, but it will do.

It was, different, how the currency system works in this world. One platinum here would be equal to one penny from where they were originally from. They guessed it was probably because the metal was more abundant here. One silver would equal three platinum, which Sam thought was a bit odd- Hehe, "Odd", but they don't question it. Then there is copper which is worth five platinum. Makes sense. Five sense, Sam thought as they chuckled. Then there was, oh, what was it called? Sam can't seem to remember the orange coin's name. Oh wait, it was "Cerium", that's right. Those are worth ten platinum. Lastly is gold, which is worth two cerium.

Sam regretted having the mysterious voice waste time by explaining the currency system to the people outside the Forth Wall, but there is nothing they can do about it, so they have no choice but to continue story with how it is.

Sam thought strategically on what they should get for the journey. Nothing that would go bad too fast, so no dairies or meats, and something that can be carried in a bag. That means apples and bread for a couple days. Hooray...

Sam went and bought the apples and bread, and carries it with a burlap bag. They were never used to the sweetness of the strange, pink and blue striped fruits, they nicknamed them "Cotton Candy apples" because that's what the taste and colors reminded them of, but their real name was "Poffles*". Sam then quickly stopped by the Healer's hut to get some glass bottles for water.

(*Poffles being plural. Poffle is one. Pronounced "pof-l" )

Now they were set and started to head for Serta Town.

"Wait!"

Sam turned around and saw Hope running in their direction.

"The Healer told me it wasn't safe to explore by myself, so, I want to come with you," Hope quickly explained.

Sam was surprise by this, pleasantly surprised. "That's great, lets go then!" Sam said enthusiastically.

Sam and Hope walk through the woods together, side by side, like best friends. Both chatting and telling jokes. Sam felt really happy, ever since they met her at the ravine.

"You can't keep being with her you know, you have duties," Roch reminded them.

Sam frowned when Roch mentioned that, he was right, they can't keep hanging out with her all the time.

"Sam, what's wrong?" Hope asked with concern.

Sam didn't want to trouble her with their problems. "It's nothing. So what were you saying?"

Hope doesn't say anything for a few moments, then asks, "What are you going to do in Serta?"

"There is someone I want to find, I would need their help," Sam answered vaguely.

"Okay," Hope seems satisfied with that answer.

After awhile, they get to some rocky fields, hardly and grass grows here. All there is, is rocks and dirt.

"These are the Rocky Plains," Sam explains.

"Kind of literal," Hope pointed out.

Sam shrugs, and continues to lead the way, walking on the rocky ground. They look back at Hope who was just standing there. "You coming?"

"My feet will get sore," Hope complained.

"Well that's the cost of adventure, isn't it?" Sam pointed out.

Hope reluctantly starts walking on the rough surface, "It's like walking on Legos."

"Its not that bad."

"What are Legos?" Sera asked.

"Never mind that. Come on, suck it up," Sam rushes.

Sam and Hope continue to travel to Serta Town.

"Wait!"

Sam turned around and saw Hope running in their direction.

"The Healer told me it wasn't safe to explore by myself, so, I want to come with you," Hope quickly explained.

Sam was surprise by this, pleasantly surprised. Wait... Sam sees someone next to a building, its the Healer. Whats he doing here?

Sam notices that he was making a gesture with his hands and making kissing faces at them. Sam turns beat red, Is he saying what I think he is saying!? Sam thought in alarm.

The Healer nods as if he knew what they were thinking, while he wears the face of a Shipper.

"What are you looking at?" Hope turns around, but the Healer was gone before she could see him.

"U-uh... lets just... go..." Sam stutters. They quickly continue their walk to Serta with Hope following close behind.

End Of Blooper
