Title: The Orphan's Wish
Royala woke up from her slumber, and looked at the calendar on the wall. It was her birthday, though no one seemed to care enough to notice. If her mother didn't, then why should anyone else? Royala sighed sadly, remembering her days as an orphaned hatchling on the streets. A kind trainer had adopted her as her own, but it was probably out of pity, not genuine love. Soon after, Royala heard the door open. "Royala," a voice whispered, "why don't you come out of your room?" Royala perked her head and looked towards the door, and saw her adopted trainer. She sat up and padded towards her trainer, who called herself Psalmreader121, or Psalmreader for short. Royala followed Psalmreader out of her room and into the dining room. Streamers and balloons decorated the walls, and a large cake with lit candles sat on the table. Seated around the table were the many other Sylesti that Psalmreader had adopted, with their gifts for her stacked in a corner of the room. Royala gasped. Psalmreader started conducting, and they all began to sing "Happy Birthday" to Royala. A single, joyful tear made its way down her cheek and off of her face. Never before had anyone cared for her enough to give her even a simple Christmas gift. Psalmreader then told Royala to make a wish and blow out the candles, snapping Royala out of her thoughts. Royala pranced up to the cake and silently wished, "I wish all Sylestis would come to know that someone does care about them, even enough to throw them a birthday party," before blowing out the candles.
