I think there's a book series called Ender's Game too... Lemme check. XD

*gasp* Of course there is. Go read it now. No movie can do that book justice.

Erm... I'm a big fan of anything written by Michael Crichton as well as the science fiction and mystery genres. I'm just going to add a couple classic books/series for your consideration.

Dune by Frank Herbert:
A young noble and his family are moved to and given stewardship of Arrakis, a desert planet famous for a resource known as 'spice' that can only be found there. But giant sand worms guard the spice and there are many in the galaxy who also want control of the planet. Whoever controls the spice controls the universe.
This is a science fiction classic and you should definitely read it if you have any sort of interest in the genre. It's also the start of a series but the book can be read as a stand-alone if you don't want to read the whole series.

The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham:
What would happen if a strange meteor shower caused everyone in the world who watched it to go blind the next day. And what of the triffids, a new plant kept as pets by the wealthy that can actually pull themselves out of the ground and walk on their own?
A book I read for my college science fiction course, Day of the Triffids ended up being my favorite post-apocalyptic story. No overrated zombies here!

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams:
A rather average Arthur Dent somehow finds himself traveling through space after Earth's spontaneous destruction. The Universe turns out to be a lot crazier than he thought it would be.
If you're somehow not familiar, Hitchhiker's is a comedy science fiction series that's been translated into all manner of media and has maintained a devoted following. You've heard it referenced before even if you didn't realize it at the time.

Anything by Isaac Asimov. :)

Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien:
I'm not going to bother with a blurb because it probably doesn't need one.

I got over half-way through the series, though, and decided the inch-and-a-half thick, small-print Redwall books were more my style.
