Thank you Krin for implementing the randomise traits feature and the hotkeys! And thank you for making the hotkey letters green instead of yellow haha. Just thought I'd let you know that the hotkey letters partially obscure the words on some buttons, at least the way the page displays on my machine. I use Chrome on a 2019 Macbook Air if that's relevant.

Yea, that's why I didn't want to stick with the white. I felt the white letters on top of white letters would be confusing. It works for the "buttons" on the main interface, but I didn't think it'd work well for the event buttons that have text.

I also want them all to be uniform so that it's obvious to a new player that they are all of similar function. I felt it might be confusing to a new player if some are white and some are green (or whatever color).

In the end, I felt a light green wouldn't be too jarring and would get the job done. For everyone used to the white for the past 3+ whatever years, I imagine it's jarring atm. But I think everyone will get used to the new color in a short period of time.

There isn't much I can do about it covering the text. It's kind of a one size fits all solution or nothing.

Yeah I like the green! (: And it'll be much easier for people to notice which hotkeys do what.

Ah, okay, no worries. Just thought I'd let you know in case you weren't aware. Maybe when that part of the site gets revamped there can be a built-in section on buttons for the hotkey to display without covering text or something. In the meantime, it's not a big deal and definitely preferable to not having the hotkeys.

Thank you so much for the nurturing hotkeys!

Is there any chance of colour-coding the nurture buttons, too? I have a language-processing disorder as a result of my autism that means at the end of a long day, it's really hard for me to quickly make meaning out of the words as they come up for each pet to nurture, so depending on how much of my mental capacity I've already used up that day, it can sometimes take me quite a long time to look at each word and determine what it means and therefor what I should click. The colour-coding in the extension was tremendously helpful for me. I've noticed I make probably ten times as many mistakes while nurturing since losing the extension. And I've heard from other users with dyslexia that it made a really big difference for them too.

Please I'm begging you I haven't been able to play since I lost the color coding feature of that add on. Literally my partner has to do things for me now and that defeats the point of me wanting to play. This is not a joke or an exaggeration and the devs would know this if they read my post that I spent two days writing in the one thread that got locked after they ignored me

(I hope it's okay to ping you! >.<) but I thought you might want to know that there is someone who started working on a new extension who intended to include nurturing colors, although it looks like it's not working properly at the moment. Krin has a reply on that thread that indicates he intends to add colors as an official feature, too. So hopefully it will either become a permanent part of the site soon or the new extension will be able to patch it in!

@Krin

Thanks so much for colour-coding the nurture buttons! Is it possible to colour the condition of the pet to match, though? That's what was so helpful about the extension colour coding.

For example, if it says a pet is slow, I have to strain my brain to be able to quickly make meaning from that and figure out which button to press. But if it says the word "slow" in orange, my brain can much more easily know that if the word "slow" is orange, that means I need to press the orange button or its hotkey. That's why the colour-coding is so helpful for those of us with language processing disorders. The colourful buttons are pretty but (at least speaking for myself) aren't really helpful for language processing issues unless the words "slow," "weak," "restless," etc. are also colour-coded to match the button you need to click.

@krin, just thought I'd ping about this again in case my previous ping got lost in all the fest stuff you've been doing. I know you're super busy right now so no rush on this, I was just hoping you could let us know if this is something you'd be willing to add to your every-growing to-do list?

Sorry, I have not had time to work further on those types of projects.

Regarding specifically the Nurturing question, I also am trying to decide on what exactly I want to enable. The intention for Nurturing has always been to be a bit of a mini-game. While I know that the Sylestia Extension version 2 added the color-matching phrases to the buttons, that was never really our intention for the feature. We have always wanted it to be a small bit of a mini-game with a bit of thinking/skill involved.

With the hotkeys now added, players can now breeze through Nurtures even faster. Since Nurturing is just essentially a 'rewards = time x speed' equation, and the rewards haven't really changed, the easier that we make Nurturing, the more it throws off the balance. So it's a consideration we have to be careful about since we still want Nurturing to remain a bit of a mini-game type feature.

All of that said, I definitely understand where you and others are coming from in regards to wanting the color-matching phrases to the buttons. So I am just trying to think of some sort of good compromise between what I want with the feature and what you guys are wanting with it.

That's totally fair. I think my take on this would be that although colour-matching the phrases might make things a bit easier for neurotypical players, it makes it a LOT easier for players with language-processing disabilities, so it does a lot to close the gap in accessibility there. As you say, it's a 'rewards = time x speed' equation, except that those of us with disabilities have extra limits placed on the speed with which we can play the minigame.

My suggestion would be colour-matching the buttons to close the accessibility gap so that everyone is able to play the mini-game with relatively similar speed, and then adjusting the frequency of rewards proportionally so that players are still getting rewards at the rate you're going for.

EDIT: idk if Bananafood pinged you as well or not, Krin, so just thought I'd stick a note here to check out their suggestion on the next page as well (:

I am not sure how complicated it would be to do but, maby make it so the matching color would appear after a certain number of that specific interaction and reset when leaving the nurrituring ground/at the end of the day. This way it would not realy make much of a difference for neurotypical players who would most likely have already memorised the answers and would still help those who nead it. ^-^
