Love...
That's what Kagutsuchi felt for Luna. He was certain of it.
That's how he felt all along.

Ever since the wolf mutt attack, he had a crush on Luna.
He was scared when those wolf mutts came into the arena. Everyone was on several trees just to get away from the blind murders. Cries and yelps could be heard for miles. Kagutsuchi himself was in a tree with Winter Breeze.
Kagutsuchi found himself looking around, constantly observing those wolf mutts clawing at some of the other trees. He could feel Winter's breath on the back of his neck, warm in comparison to the crisp, cold night that could send shivers down his spine without the wolf mutts growling every second. He looked down, trying to find some way in his head to escape the beasts. Then he heard a scream of pure terror.
He looked behind him. He couldn't see who made the scream, a dang branch was in his way. He sqirmed underneath it and found who made the scream.
It was a beautiful Cute Witch Zolnixi purebred, barely hanging onto the branch she had, mostly because a wolf mutt had her tail and was slowly dragging her down.
"Help!" she screamed. "Someone! Anyone! Help!"
Kagutsuchi flexed his dragon-ish wings, ready to fly, when he felt Winter's paw on his shoulder.
"Don't," said Winter. "Let her die. It'll be the best for all of us."
Kagutsuchi glared at Winter Breeze. "But she's in trouble," Kagutsuchi exlaimed. "I have to save her."
"Kagutsuchi, no. Let her die."
"I can't, Winter, she's in my district!"
"It doesn't matter-" But, before Winter could finish his statement, Kagutsuchi bit down on the scruff of Winter's neck and threw him towards the wolf mutts. He heard Winter's wings go crack and watched as the wolf mutts ran over to Winter and began to devour him.
Kagutsuchi looked up towards the Cute Witch. She had gotten onto some higher branches safely and was cleaning her tail of its wound. And that's when he really knew he loved her.

He remembered her name: Luna. Lovely Luna. He began to stalk her, only for her to chase him off. But, when they all realized there were only four tributes left, Zuci, one of Kagutsuchi's friends, decided to bring everyone together.
"Come on," said Zuci, "It won't hurt for you to comunitcate with others."
"Zuci, there are four of us left," said Kagutsuchi. "Who knows if Luna and Midnight won't kill us?"
"I know," said Zuci. "Midnight's a coward and Luna loves you."
"What?"
"You heard me. She hated that I went to the Feast this afternoon.."
"That was rather stupid, Zuci," said Kagutsuchi, walking between two trees to enter the camp first.
And, he saw her once again.
"Hey, Luna," Kagutsuchi said, trying to keep it cool.
"Hey, Kagutsuchi" she said, effortlessly (at least to Kagutsuchi) keeping her cool.
"So, you're the famous Kagutsuchi," said the only other Zolnixi there. They had beautiful, purple fur, but not as pretty as Luna. He wonder if this Zolnixi, who had to be Midnight, went with anyone they loved, or if they were ace, but he didn't dare ask.
"Evening, Midnight," Zuci said cooly. It had seemed they recently gotten into a fight. Kagutsuchi wondered if it was about Midnight's bravery.
"So, wanna talk about plans for tomorrow?" asked Luna. Kagutsuchi wondered if he should start stalking her again.
"Eh, it's not like we got other things to do," said Zuci, and they begun.
But all Kagutsuchi could think about was home and Luna. Home and Luna.
...
As Kagutsuchi was stalking Luna again, he heard a cannon shot go off. Luna dropped the basket of berries she had in her mouth, then turned around to run towards (Kagutsuchi assumed) Zuci, only to find Kagutsuchi right behind.
"Kagutsuchi, go away!" Luna screamed, running towards some oak trees in the distance. Kagutsuchi followed, keeping a good distance.
They had arrived near Zuci and Midnight's unconscious body. Kagutsuchi hid in some bushes.
"Zuci!" Luna screamed. "How could you? They were my best friend!"
"Well, they made me mad. They deserve this death unconsciousness."
"Zuci, please!"
And so, Kagutsuchi heard Luna cry, and he hated Zuci at that moment, but also hated himself.

After a while of playing keep away from both Zuci and Luna (after somehow being found in the bushes), he found Zuci with old and new wounds. He could only assume that Zuci had been fighting with the wildlife.
"Here," said Kagutsuchi, pulling out some bandages from his backpack, "I'll help fix you up." Zuci smiled, allowing Kagutsuchi access to some of the newer wounds to bandage them. He saw Luna come out of the bushes, clean water and his pretzels (!) in a basket.
Luna saw his shocked look. "Sorry," she said, blushing. "I was dying for some good salty snacks and saw you had them. I figured you wouldn't mind, but it looks like I was wrong."
Kagutsuchi tried his best to keep his voice even. "You were wrong to steal, but I wasn't going to eat them anyway." He continued bandaging Zuci's tail. "Why don't we gather together for the night?"
"Sure," said Luna, going off to get some wood.
...
Night slowly fell. They were right; they were the only ones left. Kagutsuchi hadn't heard a cannon shot after Zuci killed Midnight.
"Kagutsuchi," Zuci said, laying on his side, exhaustion making his eyes slightly bloodshot.
"Yeah?"
"Kill me, please. Get my life over with. I don't wanna hurt you in my anger."
"No," said Kagutsuchi. "You're one of my best friends. I couldn't." That, and I don't wanna kill Luna.
"Kill me."
"No," said Kagutsuchi, "and that's final."
...
Kagutsuchi had been gathering firewood for the next night when he heard a cannon shot. He then heard running footsteps towards him.
"No, no no no," Kagutsuchi whispered. "Zuci killed Luna and he's going to kill me too." He turned towards the running footsteps, ready to face his fate.
But it wasn't Zuci. It was Luna.
"Kagutsuchi!" she cried. "Kagutsuchi! Zuci ate berries and- and killed himself." Tears ran down his cheeks.
"He, what?"
"Follow me, I'll show you," And she ran off.
Kagutsuchi followed close behind. They got to a clearing, Zuci's unconscious body in full view.
"No," whispered Kagutsuchi, running up to his body. "No." He could see the eyes were sightless. He looked back at Luna. He knew what had to happen.
So did she. "I don't wanna hurt you, Kagutsuchi," she said, "I... I love you."
"Nor do I," said Kagutsuchi. "But if you can't live, neither can I." He smiled sadly. "I have an idea. Do you have your sais with you?"
"Yeah."
They built a contraption that would kill them both if they pulled on a rope together. It would send the sais through both of their hearts.
Their jaws were on it, ready to pull.
When a Zolnixi cam out of nowhere. "Don't! Don't!" he screamed. Both Nixis, startled, jump out of the way of the sais but accidentally pulled the rope.
Thump. Straight through the strange Zol's heart.
That's when their owner ran towards them, hugging them and telling them they won.
They both won.
And now they could go home and love each other in peace.
