"No it was airborne to begin with. That and it was a parasitic organism in some countries, making it even worse for those who died." Douglass says regretingly. "I'm sorry but he should be ok now at least:"

"But then what about everyone who is outside right now? Wouldn't they all be infected?" Confused, Caroline tried getting her mind around the concept. "Shouldn't most of us be infected then? Unless we're all immune?"

Douglass nods. "The ones not dead yet are immune but we would all die if we were bit."

"I still don't get it, but I don't give a crap right now." Nodding towards the shopping cart of supplies, she added, "I'm hungry. Let's eat."

Douglass puts her hands on her face. "We all have the virus...and it's just waiting to turn to the parisite...some of us are immune." She points to Sebastian. "Some are not." She points to Leon. "But in the end we all will end up as one of them, unless I get to Washington to the lab."

"Ok, that makes sense. But you just gave him an injection, which is the cure? Don't you just have to make more of it? Though I suppose you would have to go to Washington first. We - You could head there sometimes tomorrow? Or what?"

Douglass laughs. "If it was that easy I would have already have done it. No that was just a rough start on the cure. It works on the virus but not the parisite, which there are more of. And each one becomes immune to the cure faster than anything man has ever known. This cure will not work after the virus around us mutates."

"Oh..." Staring at the empty syringe, Caroline sighed. "Well, this sucks, huh?" Smiling faintly, she shook her head. "There is a possible way to kill the virus, right?"

"No..." Douglass says starting to tear up. "What have I done!" She yells.

"Whoa, it's okay. It's not all your fault!" Slightly crouching down, she held the girl's shoulders firmly. "What happened, happened. It's the past now. All you can do is work hard now."
