"Ah, I see. Were you the enchant-men-to-eat them types or the seclusive type?" I ask, getting intrigued.

"Probably the first one, based on your reaction when I sang." She meant is as a joke, then paused for a second before saying: "I was a baby, so I don't remember much. Most of my beginning years were in the lab until I escaped."

"Ah, I see. D'you, want to talk about it or anything? I've always been good at listening. At least, that's what everyone used to tell me." I say, pulling my hair back into its ponytail.

"I'd prefer not to.. but I guess I should try. Maybe it'll help if we talk about it." She drew in a deep breath, shakily sitting back down on a smooth rock.

I nod my head, gesturing at her to continue talking. I pull my feet out of the water, getting cold as the water on my wings starts to chill me further.

"I was taken as a little girl." Tempest started, her hands curling into fists. She tried to relax, but it didn't work and she stayed tensed up. "They tested me at the lab, experimented. New types of DNA. They kept me away from water for long periods of time. And that wasn't even the worst."

"That's awful," I say, shaking some water out of my wings. I carefully run my fingers through my dark hair, pulling out twigs. Of course, it doesn't help. It stays plastered to my forehead and sticks out comically in the back. I look back at her, and quirk an eyebrow. "On a more positive note, how do I look?"

She opened her mouth, then replied slowly and carefully. "You look nice." Although I'm sure you always do. "You have a few twigs in your hair, though. That a new look or what?"

I snort. "I'm normally a lot se... more attractive," I say, catching myself just in time. "The twigs and cowlick are new, however." I run my hands through my hair once more, fidgeting nervously.
