You try to pantomime walking in the middle. But through the distance you cannot tell if they understand or if they can even tell what you're doing. Maybe it would be easier just to give up or walk around? Then again you would save a lot of time if both of you met in the middle.

I run faster around the lake, in order to reach the other wolf quickly, hoping it understood my message.

You back off quickly, and luckily the other wolf does not chase you. You eventually run out of it's view. What now? Perhaps you should rest. Or keep going.
