Lucas trailed after Ben, a normal one step at a time, but he walked disturbingly fast typically too.

He seemed to understand. "You were with some bad people, huh? If all these people were looking for you. And why were you there where we found you? Should you be with your.... Owls?"

Ben burst into the upstairs hallway like a stealthy swan that broke both it's legs and drank too much.

Owl-kid looked down, contemplating this. A small, barely audible sigh escaped them. Their nimble fingers traced the bloody crack in their mask. "Po...ate...c..a.." ((Maybe))

"I would say I understand that. But, uh, I don't." Kai said, crossing his arms. "Are you able to speak English? At least a little? It would help. I mean, I took French the last three years, so.... I'm hopeless with Spanish save for some similar words. So whatever language you're using definitely is past my translation abilities."

Lucas tried not to comment that he would have been stealthier even if he had tackled the boy in this hallway at that exact moment.

Ben paused, tilting his head. THUD! "Didya hear that?" Back in the med-bay, The White-Owl adjusted the clasp of his cloak, nodding. "S..i..." ((Yes))

Lucas startled, at first thinking Ben had made another clumsy move, then corrected himself for being so stupid. The boy hadn't moved in such a way that the noise would be like that. "Uh oh."

"Okay! That's a French word! So that means yes, I'd assume, seeing as it's also in Spanish and it's better known there but- yeah I'll stop rambling. Can you speak for me in English then?" Kai, despite his intelligence in other matters, seemed kind of nervous that the other person would attack him.

"Hooolyy shhh!!!!ttt we're gonna dieeee--" Ben groaned, emotional from the lack of sleep. He clung to Lucas's arm, "I don't wannaaa dieeee up hereeee."

The boy remained silent as the stone gargoyles that decorated his presumed hometown, Gotham. Gradually and slowly he shook his head 'no' before surging to his feet and nimbly climbing back up the shelf. His message was clear, he was done talking for today.

Lucas had never babysat in his life, and he never planned on doing it again, even if his financial situation was currently in smithereens. "If you start crying I'm going to push you into the room or through whatever door that noise is coming from. Besides, you're not going to die- maybe just be terribly injured at worst." Very reassuring Lucas. Good job handling that situation, he thought to himself.

Kai sighed, getting to his feet and dusting off his pants. "Alrighty then. I guess you're tired or something. I'll come back tomorrow... without my temperamental associate next time."

Ben made a choked noise of pure terror, vividly remembering the corpse he had stumbled on the night before. "Wh-what?"

Nevermind. Not good. Abort. Abort. "I mean..." he struggled with words. After all, he didn't usually take back anything he said, but the kid looked so terrified he decided he'd rather not let him faint on the floor and alert whatever was making the strange noises. "I was kidding... you'll be fine?"
