Do you feel it when they disappear?
Life's lasting wish extinguished;
Parted lips and starry eyes
Haunted gaze and little white lies
Where has gone our emotional ties
There are no dreams here
Do you hear it when they disappear?
Tears of children, all alone
Crumpled pages all torn out,
Broken spines, strewn about
Where has gone the faithful route
There are no stories here
Do you see it when they disappear?
The sight of dusk, soft nightfall fades
Stars winking out far off in the sky
They haven't come back, we don't know why
Where has gone our wish to fly
There are no smiles here
Do you know it when they disappear?
Tall, dark ones roam about
They have no mouths with which to bite
They have no eyes, but still see and fight
Where has gone dear morning's light
There are no guardians here
Do you cry when they disappear?
Harsh sunlight knows when best to strike
The bells are tolling
Our hearts are knolling
Gravestones are rolling
Our sorrow knows no bounds here.
This is a poem I wrote from the point of view of a Sylestian, regarding a fictional event during which the Sylesties are all taken away on a fateful night. It describes how everything that was once good and beautiful is absent and transformed into darkness and dreariness.
For me specifically it means the Ryori being gone, because I love them best. Ryori seem etheral, mystical, mythical, and fantastic. Truth be told I love the Nebula trait, which lets you see the stars in their very fur-- I'm a big astrology nut. However, you don't need that trait to let them show you the stars. Their eyes, gaseous manes, and sage countenances tell a story that spans those stars, binding them together. Heck, I think they even have stars ringed round their head; don't you think those orbs look like moons? Satellite or star, it's still part of that wide-open galaxy, and if they can hold tiny celestial bodies against theirs, what else are they capable of?
Ryori were born of starlight and ether, formed when the moon looked out, lonely, across the galaxy, and was comforted by the distant touch of a star, which wiped away its tears. Well, okay, maybe not, but it's certainly what I like to believe! How else can you explain such a beautiful creature adequately? It takes more than words like "they're cute" or "they're playful I think" to show the majesty of any sylesti, let alone one that encompasses a person's favorite aspect of aesthetic nature given form.
I love the stars. I love the peaceful, warm, silent night, the night that gives you a bubble of timeless solitude even while around others that sleep (or play or think) in their own homes. I love the memory of warm summer night air against my face, and I love the smell of a flame. I attribute these things to Ryori, because I think these things are not so different from what they might be like were they real.
Ryori are magnificent. Would you fault me for choosing them above all else? Do you feel the same way about your favorites as I do mine?
Wellp, sorry. Poem explanation turned into a rave review of Ryori. My bad. ;)

I got bored and didn't wanna do homework. ;w; So I did a simple sketch.
click the image for a zoomed-in version c:
What I like about Qitaris is their scales.
Some people may not like them because they're so close to horses, but not with all those tough scales all over them.
And they're somewhat close to dragons, except without all the fancy traits that make them less than mystical. (I like their whiskered dragon mane aha)
But despite their commonness, they are unique just by being what they are, in my opinion, scaled equines.
Beautiful, graceful, energetic equine build.
Strong, armored, enduring scales that adorn them.
They're a simple species, but I admire them. c:
Tried sketching that other leg and coloring it in, but I'm not proud of it aha.
