Its ok I'm a newbie too. The reason you cannot select your pet is because either your pet is not old enough, or you've bred your pet and she is recovering.

Edit: Aha! Two reasons to cannot breed with my pet:
1: too young, to breed pets your pet has to be 18 days old
2: your pet is hurt/recovering from battle

Okay, Jaiden is SUPER healthy. Only Millie and Hazel are dying (I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO HEAL THEM) how about you try breeding your Quitari with... oh. Yeah. Hazel is my female Quitari. SUPER sorry! I'll try breeding some other time and show you the outcome!

I also recently got these pets that you can breed with too.
Female Zolnixi- She's named Charolette; Yes, I've tried breeding her with Jaiden. She needs a husband with less personality.
Male Zolnixix- Kade is a pretty strong, and I haven't gotten the chance to use him recently. I need a good female for him.
Female Qitari- Hazel will probably produce ADORABLE babies if you breed with her. I need a male Qitari for her though.
Male Kelpari- I need a female for Neron, my strong warrior
