While this drawing could of course be improved (everything always can, nobody ever reaches perfection), it's certainly not bad. And you know... nobody gets born being able to draw amazing art. You get better by doing it and working hard on it. So if you enjoyed the process of drawing this, then drawing is your thing, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Also, don't be so quick to dismiss Deviantart, there's a mass of artists of all levels on there really. It might not make it to their front page, but it doesn't have to. It's still a great place to connect with people who are interested in drawing and understand how you feel about it when your dad and possibly other people around you apparently don't.

Yes, I have one :) And I know that if I had waited until I felt like a "real artist"... I still wouldn't have one. Come to think of it, that whole site would probably be pretty empty if everyone waited for that...

I don't post regularly, but I probably should, I've realised that whenever I do, I'm more motivated to draw, because someone other than me actually gets to see it, otherwise I'm starting to feel that "why do I bother?" too. Even if it's just one or two people clicking on something, it still makes drawing feel less like a lonely and pointless occupation, because you connected with someone. Who knows, you might even get helpful critiques (though that will honestly be rarer than people just telling you that they like your stuff, which is also cool). Think about it, Redfix! :)

I was about 10 when I did. xD I thought I was pretty good, which I wasn't, but I still posted a bit anyways. No one commented or anything, but I stayed on the site because of all the awesome artwork and tutorials other artists made. :P

I had one on Elfwood before I went to Deviantart, the fact that it was for Fantasy specifically made it more interesting to me, because nobody around me thinks much of fantasy art, and it was and is the only thing I wanted to do. It's easier to be seen on Deviantart now (though I suppose Elfwood may have changed too since I was there), with groups and forums and all that.

It's funny how, as your abilities grow, the stuff that you were really proud of at one time can look pretty bad when you look back at it a couple of years later. And from what I hear, that never stops, as long as we stick with art, in a few years we'll look back at what we did today and we won't think much of it anymore because we got so much better in the meantime.
