I like the idea but the pets definitely need to be breed-able or release-able. Putting them up for public sale or trading them CAN be left out to keep rarity up... BUT for me personally I really enjoy the breeding part of the game, as many do. I look forward to hatching eggs and sorting through them and picking the best ones to keep and breed. This is a huge part of the site that can not be neglected when it comes to pet-related content. Not sold on the "combine pets for eggs instead of breeding" suggestion.

I know it's so typical and we've already got some but I'd love to see more dragon-esque species. Species that are vicious and not so cutesy like how the aeridinis and draeyls are (male draeyls are OK but I don't like that species overall and they are more like dinosaurs). Maybe some kind of winter-y/tundra dragons with fur. Or really armoured/spike-y dragons. Or dragons that come with 2 legs, 2 arms and wings as default (ny'venes don't have 2 arms unless they have the quad arms mutation). I dunno.. that's probably just me though. :P

I'd love to see an archeology aspect with resurrecting ancient sylesties. I do think though it would be best if it didn't rely on diamonds. Regarding how it's done, I wonder if nodes can be expanded on to include some of what's needed. Also, if there's certain rare mobs that drop ingredients that could be a possibility?

I'd really love to see sylesties based more on dinosaurs or ones that look like an amalgam between a dinosaur and a dragon. Big, scary, tough looking. On the other hand I'd love a parasaurolophus.

I think if the finished pets are non-tradeable, and can't be released, it's reasonable to be able to pick the traits you want them to have. I'd be excited to make one of these!

And my choice of pet would be a yeti/sasquatch, lol. If we get costimes, you could even give him a caveman costume ;)

Ooh oh ohhh, I love the idea of a big viscous dragon >:)
As for the breeding, I have an idea. Perhaps there is a special ingredient you can include in your fossil recipe that would make the pet breedable? This way, on the opposite of themed pets we already have, the offspring would have more value. It could keep the numbers down, keeping rarity, but still not completely cutting out the breeding feature, and make the babies more special.

Please excuse the length of this, reading through your guy's conversation really got my brain gears turning, and I pinged you all because you all seemed to animate about this. (I am too!!)
I like the idea of adding a Fossil Sylesti. And a big viscus dragon :). Although the cutesy approach towards these creatures is nice, it would pleasant to see some diversity in style of the Sylesti. Note: I'm not saying the current style is bad or/and needs to be changed. It would just be nice to see a little....
with something like this being the adolescent, so you at least get some cutesy in the whole raising of the Fossil Sylesti.

Secondly for the actual building of the creatures: What if you had to gather all the bone, through festivals or seasonal item. This would also entail the amount of mutation that would go into a Sylesti Fossil, increasing (or encase they lose a limb) decreasing the amount of bones needed to complete their full skeleton. Then once the skeleton was all assembled you had to go and make a potion reanimating the completed skeleton. (Just the skeleton no skin, muscle color). At this point you could either combine two separate Sylesti Fossils in the hope of getting one with better mutations (recombining until one strikes their fancy), Or you could move on to the anatomy and genetics of the Fossilized Sylesti. Picking their physical build (jock=strength stat, athlete= agility stat, brains=intelligence stat, vegetarian=health stat, geek=dexterity stat) by gathering the ingredients to make each physical build(in the form of a potion). Then you would have to gather genetic traits (I like Bluebird's idea) maximum of three. And the final stage would be the player himself/herself, he/she would have to get the Fossil Sylesti to the max level (exp orbs unavailable) in order to unlock the breeding option. This in a sense would help keep their population down and make each and every Reanimated Fossil Sylesti unique and rare.

Suggested fossil bases:
wolf/stag hybrid
fox/squirrel hybrid

I love your additional ideas!! They gave me a few more :D

Maybe there is a "DNA" stage. If you have ever used the app Jurrassic World, you would know that there is a unique building where you fuse DNA. Maybe we can't craft the pet until it has three traits (stats would be optional but capped would most likely be preferred) But you could have multiple skeletons at once?

These skeletons would be held in the "DNA Den." Here you could see them all, their stats, their traits, and builds at once. Then you could decide which you wanted to combine for which characteristics and why. Like an inventory, this could be a completely new add on to the site where you can store all your fossil pet supplies and skeletons.

I would also prefer a new style for these pets, here are my reasons:
1.) Animals living in older time periods had to survive on harsher environments and climates
2.) They would be easily distinguished from other pets; They would be unique
3.) For all this work of making them, we would want them to be worth the cost and wait, and not like anything we've ever seen

I also think there should be set color schemes for these creatures. What if we finally get it, and it is a hideous color combination? Either we need to be creating tagged fossil pets, or we need a special dye that we can use in the process of making them. Orrrr since we would have obviously earned it, once it has been created it is instantly shipped to a separate generator where you can choose the colors and see your pet. (I would prefer this)

Also, as you suggested with collecting the pieces over different fests, maybe there was one new theme a year? And within this year we have to collect the pieces in order to get the certain theme? There could also be "custom" fossil pets that don't have a theme, this is just an extra thought :) Thanks for the feedback!

Okay first off YES!!!

I love the idea of keeping them in a separate stable and having a separate generator that you get taken to once it is time to add the color and seeing the pet before you finalize the colors. Like a "Test Color" or a "Test Combine" like what we already have at the breeding grounds. It gives you an example of what the creature could look like, but the look isn't 100% accurate so that there would still be a little mystery to make the extinct creatures.

Having a different look to the extinct species would make sense (your reasons are perfect so I'm not changing them or adding to them).

Maybe for the color scheme they could have mystic or tribal, or you if you wanted too, a natural and have camouflage or animal print. And more wing variety coloration (they always have so few). Was thinking something like this or this this this or this (sorry went on a picture reference spree).
BTW is there a picture limit?

If you have any other idea's for coloring patterns link them please. I would love to see other ideas

Haha! xD
I don't think so, I love all those references you linked :) I would really enjoy seeing a dragon with feathers and some of those patterns on them. I also think something like sea monsters, ostriches, and long-necks would be cool. Maybe a giraffe-dragon!

Anyway, glad the separate generator/storage area sounds good :p I hadn't meant separate stables in general, but I do like the sound of that. This way, they wouldn't get mixed in with your other pets? But I would like to see a way for these to be visible by the public (in consideration of if the "lock stables" suggestion gets built in as well)

I really hope Krin puts this in :) I know it would probably be a /ton/ of coding... But maybe for the new sylestia?

For the visible to the public bit: what if you could select one to be seen next to your avatar. Like a prize pet sort of thing. I can not even image the amount of coding that would have to go into this, but it would be soooooo cool if it did get picked.

The only thing I think about that is, there might not be enough space? Perhaps it could be in a curved, flying position to the left of your avi, with it's head near the foot's level where not many items overlap
