Awesome, if I can get all my info together and if everything else works out we should start the RP around Friday or Saturday, maybe Sunday if I'm feeling overwhelmed.

In response to Soltra's questions.

So, magic, magic in Alaivar is, well, complicated. Almost anyone can learn (through extensive training, focus, and research) Neutral magic (telepathy, telekinesis, shapeshifting, portal creation, stuff like that.) But to use Elemental magic (fire, water, earth, air, light and shadow) one must be born will the ability to use that element. It usually takes some training before mages are able to finely hone their abilities. Anyone who is born with an element is able to learn Neutral magic much, much easier.
For example let's say there are two wizards, Bob and Jim. Bob trained for ten years before he was able to master telekinesis. Where as Jim was born with the element of water (so he shoots frostbolts) so he trained for five years to master telekinesis and frostbolt shooting. If this makes any sense at all.

I recommend two characters but really, if you want four characters that's up to you, just, no more that six characters please, if you have an odd number of characters I can make up a riding partner for them.

A dragon's humanoid form can be any race and any age. However, most dragons will appear to be the same (or a similar) age as their riding partner, so that it's not strange if they're walking around town together. A dragons' disguise is an almost perfect recreation of the race they are trying to mimic, with one difference, the eyes, a dragon can take the shape of any race it wishes, but I cannot change the color of its eyes, and when they're pupils dilate, they turn to slits.

Edit: Also, dragons are almost always the same gender in their humanoid form

Race: Half Elven Half merfolk


Clothing/Armor: Often needing to change quickly Nixi limits her wardrobe to small items. Wispy, short skirts. Soft, thin shirts, normally with very little sleeve. Flat soled sandals. Everything she wears is plain in color and pattern so she doesnt find herself attached to any one thing. Being forgetful about where she leaves her clothes has taught her to shop cheaply.

Jewelry: However coming from a Merfolk heritage she is very attached to jewelry. Rings, bracelets, anklets, necklaces; anything that sparkles and can catch the light on land as well as in water.

Weapon of choice: Having very little places to hide or stash weapons Nixi has almost always relied on others to keep her safe, however the pride that runs through her from her Elven blood keeps her from being helpless. She is a skilled hunter in the water with fast reflexes and a keen eye. But even with her skills it would be nothing if she was without extra force. Hidden in the sturdy sliver banded cuff she wears on her left bicep is a folding blade.

Magic: Being half Elf and half siren Nixi may have the elemental magic of water though shes never tested it, not wanting to find out she cant. Though she does have an underlying ability to sway some one to trust her faster than they may normally trust some one else. Nixi wouldnt call it magic, for her its natural but she also has the ability to morph some of her features to adapt to being in water. The longer shes in water the more she changes (days to weeks)

Appearence: Having to accommodate for her change Nixi has long thin limbs with a slinky build. She tends to be unsure of her own body and hunches her shoulders to appear smaller. Her eyes are large and wide showing off her larger than normal iris and pupil. They seem dull and almost filmy but under water they have a faint sheen to them. Her hair hangs in inky, long, limp ringlets that looks more like seaweed than curls almost as if it should be tangled with shells. Her skin seems shadowy, not bright and warm like that of most Elves. But the one feature that Nixi prides her self on more than her looks are her hunters teeth. Bright white double rows of faintly pointed teeth, she never fails to flash a smile just to show them off.

Personality: Nixi is and has always been a handful. Known as the trickster in her hometown and treated like a deviant she has grown to become challenging and daring. She loves to laugh and wears wide smiles despite her constant state of being alone. Shell run a good game when it comes to words but tends to sneak off or have others fight her battles. Shes all talk and too scared to ever really fight.

Bio/History: Taking on more of the look of her mother she walks around as if fresh from the ocean. This has caused a massive rift between herself and the other Elves in her area. They dont trust her, and Nixi has played into that all her life. Shes the trickster, the deviant flashing bright daring smiles at anyone who dares pass glance over her. With her mother out at sea and her father still sailing Nixi grew up along the shorelines alone. Her father would come home for a few weeks, bestow gifts from her mother and family only to leave off again unable to stay away from his love and his job for too long.

Anything else: Nixi has no idea if she can breath underwater. Shes never tried. She has marks on her neck that may be gills but her fear of being wrong always outweighs her need to find out. Nixi hates being wrong. More than most things, because being wrong could get her killed and thats a gamble she doesnt want to take. She also really enjoys fresh, seafood though most of the time she cant afford it.

Thanks, and yes, I was planning on doing that - there's a few things I don't understand (I tend to think of questions and realize things when creating characters), one of them being, how is there an academy for riders given that the world is a wasteland? Shattered Lands as in the land is no longer 'beautiful' - a lack of greenery as dried lands takes its place.

And then, why is there an academy? Thirdly, regarding the elements dragons are born with - when I asked you the question regarding magic, you said that there were six elements - fire water earth air light and shadow - as the elements listed by the side for the dragons's form leaves out Light and Shadow, does this mean dragons naturally do not bear this element?

Some other questions regarding characters would be - my character is a human, is giving him the 'light' element a possibility? Also, are there, for example, relics, or equipment, that can aid a human or elf or any other magic using creature, in their spell casting, magic usage, etc? Also can my dragon be born with his rider >< Like they lived together, meaning the dragon was born outside of the academy ><

Ok so, that isn't the whole backstory. The Shattering occurred over 5000 years before the rider academy, so most of the world has healed to what it was before The Shattering except the Dead Wastes (desert) in the middle of the continent.

The academy was formed after a massive war broke out between all the sentient races of Alaivar with each race fighting each other race. The Sathikr were taken as slaves by the humans, dwarves and elves slaughtered each other in huge battle fields and the nesting grounds of the dragons were destroyed along with hundreds of eggs, hatchlings and expecting mothers. After 1000 years of war, a young lookout for the human armies came across a dying dragoness, protecting a single egg. The dragoness entrusted the protection of her egg to the young human boy before her death. Together, the young dragon and his human rider managed to stop the war and bring peace to Alaivar. With the support of all the races the academy was formed, to educate, guard the lands and hopefully stop another war.

That is totally my fault, dragons can use light and shadow (derp) I just forgot to put them on the sheet.

You can definitely give your human the light element.

There are relics that enhance the magical skills and powers of mages. Other relics have powers themselves that can be tapped into by almost anyone. One of the most powerful relics on Alaivar is in the academy, under the ownership of Hakunath the Ancient One.

There are some (very few) dragons who choose not to live at the academy, most of them are riderless but it is possible that a dragon mother who cannot keep her egg (because of sickness, being dead or something else) would give it away to someone they trust for safekeeping.

And the age range for humanoids would be 9 to 18, because realistically any older or younger wouldn't really be a student. For dragons, 10 and under. For gryphons, 9 to 18.

I think that covers everything :)
Just as a side note if you want to have you characters get into relationships that's fine by me, but please try to keep it pg13 (or at least do the *fade to black* thing)

It will start as soon as I have everyone's character's. We are waiting on Lemonadenazi and Soltra. I also still need to make rider pairings so bear with me.
