Im zone 7a apparently. Lol
I wish to share photos of my newly planted flower bed.
Cannis-tall broad green leaves
Shasta daisies and dwarf celosia
oh and my pretty flower plate sculpture ;)
Cannis, magadi lobelia, dwarf celosia and the tropic loving elephant ears.
Magellan Zinnia, white petunia, marigold
I use red mulch to keep moisture in the ground and minimize weeds, miracle grow plant food every two weeks and i water every evening. I only use pesticide if my plants look chewed up.
I also dead head as often as i can.

Yes it's fine to put veggies and herbs for me :)
And that garden is so pretty, everything is so well organized and neat!

Your patio looks amazing, if i was your upstairs neighbor i would welcome the vine with open arms. ;D haha.
My garden will be huge the end if july.i got a late start on planting this year. This garden is like 6 times bigger than my last garden.

Hello! Fellow gardener here, for the time being I am restricted to porch gardening until the day when we finally buy a house, but I make do with what I have. I'm in zone 9a (pretty sure I'm reading this USDA map right) and I do mostly herbs and flowers (mainly roses), sometimes I'll try and plant fruits or veggies of some sort just to see if I can get them to grow. Right now I've only got some spearmint, calendula flowers, and what I believe is a raspberry plant growing (I think its a raspberry plant, it looks like a young one and it reseeded from whatever I had planted in its pot last year before I could change the soil out and plant something new, so I'm just letting it grow). I love the challenge of growing stuff from seeds, there's something so satisfying about coming out one morning with my coffee and finally seeing sprouts peek out over the soil then to watch them grow.
The spearmint, though he's much bigger now and has even spread to make two new sprouts in the container (I'll have a new picture of those once daylight hits):
The calendula flowers, also now much bigger and with 8 sprouts that keep growing more and more every day:
I need to retake a picture of the what I assume is a raspberry plant, but its dark out so I'll take a new one of everything tomorrow :3 I've got a bunch of new seeds I really want to plant, but we're in the process of moving to a new apartment for August so the less I have to carefully transport across town, the better. Plus at the new place, I'll have a little more space to grow things as we'll finally be on the ground floor so I can take advantage of the grassy area around our porch. The seeds I have to be planted still are blue poppies, rosemary, lavender, gardenias, some aloe seeds and two different types of roses.
I also run a tumblr blog that I try and update with progress on my plants: http://sugarstarsmom.tumblr.com/ (There's also pictures of my kid and some pinterest crafting type stuff, but I do post about my plants as well if that's your kind of thing)

Ooooh I honestly prefer mints in pots, they'll take over everything if you stick them in the ground orz

Oh man I know, I have to keep him away from all the other plants as that's what happened last year. Just took over everything!

Aha well I suppose there are worse plants to take over stuff, if it starts to get crazy it just means it's time for lots of mint tea

Maybe thats what i should plant around my mail box, pretty sure poison oak and poison ivy are slowly swarming around my mail box. If mint can take over and choke out the bad stuff sounds like a great idea. XD
Actually i need something that needs very little sunlight since there is no direct sunlight. :/ i havent looked into this yet. Sadly no more money to spend on gardening this year xD

With mention of plants that can take over, I thought I'd bring a plant called Bidens alba that has really pretty little daisy looking flowers. Aside from taking over, the other problem with this plant is the seeds get caught in clothing and if you accidentally walk through some you could be picking out seeds for some time. On the other hand, butterflies do really like it.
I prefer to pull them out and maybe plant some lantana or some other plant for butterflies instead.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bidens_alba
Edit: Got to start reading about lantanas and apparently it can actually be rather invasive depending on the species as well. I haven't had much trouble myself with it though but it could be the hybrids I have. Not sure.

I'd like to join - I'm predominantly interested in edibles - herbs, veggies, etc. I'm Australian based (Australian zone 4 which I think is the equivalent of US zone 10). Here's a link to an Australian Government website on Plant Hardiness Zones: http://www.anbg.gov.au/gardens/research/hort.research/zones.html.
It's currently winter so there's a bit of a lull in the time I spend in the garden due to the weather. I'll see about getting some pictures next time the weather is nice enough to spend time in the garden (maybe once I've done the weeding, sssshhhhh!).
