There were two lines of thinking to this and we ultimately had to choose one. Ideally, we would let the players decide how they want it to act, but that requires extra work to code an interface and a place for settings to be saved.

Method 1: The messages never show up in any capacity.
This is as is being suggested. The issue here is the following hypothetical situation that we wanted to avoid:

Blocked Player: Does anyone want this pet?
Random Player 1: I'll take it
You: You'll take what?
Random Player 1: Blocked Player is asking if anyone wanted their pet.
You: Oh, I have them blocked lol

I feel pretty confident in saying that situations like this would arise over time and it's definitely something we would want to avoid happening as it would absolutely stir up drama and make the 'Blocked Player' immediately feel bad. No matter what, nobody wants to be in that position and every player is a human being on the other side of the screen.

Additionally, this situation would also still cause the player to "think" about the 'Blocked Player'.

Method 2: A small, subtle notification that a message has been blocked.
This is obviously the method we went with at this time. The only issue here is that each blocked message makes you think about who or what was blocked. However, I felt that players would get used to this over time and eventually stop paying attention to the notification. Atm, it's brand new, so every player probably notices it every time it happens.

Method 3: A small, subtle notification that a message has been blocked with the option to view the message
This is the same as Method 2, however, with the option of clicking to view who/what was said. We felt this was the worst option as probably almost everyone would just view the message anyway out of curiosity and then nothing would really be accomplished.

As I said, ideally, the best solution is allowing the player to choose the functionality and I imagine we will do that eventually. However, at this point in time, we have to choose the best method for players until I have available time to code a more in depth solution.

Proposing a solution where my extension would have the option to remove the "a message has been blocked" messages from chat which implements Method 1. Method 2 is the current in game solution. Method 3 is more or less what my extension currently does. This covers all three options thus effectively allowing the player to choose which method they want. Thoughts?

On your end or my end?

On your end, you can add the extension to your browser through the Chrome or Firefox addon store. There's a preference popup where you can set which features you want enabled. You can find more info here :)

On my end, I can affect how a page looks (removing chat messages for example) and I can automate anything that a player can manually do (clicking buttons, etc). But these changes are local (only affects how you see things, not anyone else) and I can't change any data Krin has stored (ex: I can make it appear that I have 999M gold, but I can't actually give myself 999M gold).

Hmm, I half agree with this. But I kinda think maybe instead of just saying message was blocked. It also states that users name you blocked. So it's like

Chickenstrip message was blocked

I would see no issues if you wanted to tackle this through your extension.
