Port Official: I also give licences and arrange liners. What do you want to buy? I sell food, water, timber and cannonballs.
Ivan thought for a moment. "Hmm... I think I will buy food, water, and timber." he said thoughtfully. He looked around the port. It was very pretty here. The winds were very strong, very good sailing weather.
((All good Ivy!))
"Can you guard? I'd like to explore the town a bit," I say smiling

Ivan thought for a moment. "So, how far is the port closest to here?" he asked. He planned to just get enough to go that long, then he might settle down there, if there were no problems like pirates and such...

(St. Petersburg map where you are now)
"Helsinki and Tallinn are closest, they can be anything from 3 to 5 days away depending on the wind"

Nod in thanks and head into town, heading towards the busiest area

You headed to the market place, where many sailors had bazaars up to sell goods they'd made, stolen or bought. there were many more looking to buy, the main market keeper was standing behind his shop and you saw the pedlar trying to calm two children who were running around.

Walk over and see what the children are doing, wondering if perhaps I can help

The children were playing tag while their mother, the pedlar, was trying to sell things. It was probably a daily routine for them. They looked like they led a reasonably comfortable life. Not rich, but not poor either.
