She then explains to him the rules. It's a bit repetitive, but basically they're:

*Don't kill other hunters unless you have a very good reason to.
*No alliances with any demons registered as a Class A threat, Class B you need to tell an authority about but if they're fine with it it's good, Class C and lower you don't need permission.
*Only one familiar. Meaning he can't get another raiju or a kitsune or phoenix or anything unless he gives away Hawkblade.
*Romantic relations with a non-hunter needs to be something an authority figure is aware of. Especially when it comes to demons. Dating a Class A demon is of course not allowed, B needs permission, basically same parameters as alliances.
*Authorities are to be obeyed unless you have a very good reason not to.

He wondered what Class Katt was in. Not that they necessarily had an alliance or anything.

He could probably ask the hunter woman.

He was worried that if he asked her something, possibly everything, would backfire

Well, he (presumably) doesn't know anything about any of the classes. He should at least ask what the differences between classes are.

She explains both classes to him, since they're basically identical:

It goes from A to F. F is no threat at all- creatures like basilisks and such. E is minor threats- demons that can deal damage, but are passive, timid and even if they attack it is almost never life-threatening. D is slightly more dangerous. They can maybe do more damage, but are usually gentle and normally won't attack unless in self defense. C can be lethal, but are usually not aggressive. B can be a legitimate threat, but can be stopped. A are deadly, aggressive, very powerful, and should be avoided at all costs.
