Midwest furfest. Furries were the main target because for some reason their very being is misconstrued as sexual even though fur conventions raise tons of money for hospitals and the like. it was a chlorine gas attack

Everyone else, you now have 2 hours to solve this trivia question. Your hint is listed below.
Hint: These very short yet sharp things cover the entirety of their back, a good portion of their sides. These things sit on a sheet of muscle called the mantle which forms a flap or curtain which hangs down from the animals sides and hides the top part of its legs, making it appear short-legged even though its proportions are actually similar to those of a fox terrier. This sheet of muscle is what gives these things the ability when curling up to become a spiked ball for added protection. What are these things called?
