The mother, seeing you approach her pups, snarls and pushes them out of sight.

You pull out some food, and the mother pushes her pups back before making sure you are no threat. Finally she comes over and takes the food from your hand. She must have belonged to someone before for her to be this docile. Slowly the pups come out of the bushes.
