A third kit pounces onto his back. They only seem to be playing, but it still hurts. A lot.

He rea he's for his phone. They obviously don't like light, but he doesn't necessarily want to kill them, either

By now, the teenager has walked away. All the kits are purring, not seeming to realize they're hurting him.

The one on his foot lets go. Then he hears the garage door open, which excites the kits. Which would be great, except it turns out when they get excited, it makes them want to pounce on him more.

He hears it close again. A moment later, he hears a door open, and hears the footsteps of something large coming down the short hallway towards the room he's in.
