The students filed into the Great Hall. The first years were told to stand before the table where all the teachers sat. Victoria was standing beside a boy with green eyes and dark hair, but she ignored him for the most part as he didn't speak.

Headmistress Minerva McGonagall stood before them, a small smile on her face as she watched the first years assemble. Behind them were four long tables, each one holding the students of a house. She cleared her throat, and explained that they were to be sorted first, and then brought out a large hat.

The hat stayed still for a moment, then coughed and muttered a few words. Victoria's eyes widened but the boy next to her just frowned. Again, the hat began to.. was it singing?

"Oh you may not think I'm pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.

You can keep your bowlers black,
Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.

Piper's eyes widened in excitement. Her face seeming to brighten.

Stella felt a little unsure. She didn't know how she felt about a dusty, old, singing hat determining her fate at Hogwarts.

Amelia started fiddling around with her fingers, nervous as to what house she would be put in. She loved hearing the hat sing though. She peered over and watched the sorting begin.

Belle watched the hat, she was so happy that she was finally here and she hoped that she would be put into a good house.

Christopher stood awkwardly, he would probably be excited or something but he was too nervous about the houses to be in any kind of good mood.

Amelia peered at who was next to her. She saw (blank) on her right, and (blank) on her left. She started playing with her fingers again.

The Headmistress began to call out names in alphabetical order. "Adams, Belle." She called out as the second name.
