Yes, DnD Beyond is fine, and since you have your own group, you can use whatever rules you're comfortable with (or, y'know... break as many as you're comfortable with X3)

I promise I was productive. I made four characters and cleared 3 1/2 zelda dungeons... okay, maybe not productive, but I did things

No, I was just stopping by. I can give you pointers as far as DMing, though. I don't recommend a homebrew campaign to begin with, though.

Now it's time...
for the dreaded S T A T S
Basically, if you have a set or four six-sided dice, or 4d6, at home, roll all for, ignore the lowest value, add the highest three, record. Repeat that until you have six numbers written down (or typed up, whatever)
Or, you can go to the site I put up, under the image of the character sheet, and go down until you find Stat Roll. It should already be set to 4d6 drop lowest. Hit Roll, and it will automatically give you six values and the modifiers that go with them.
Once you've got your values, ping me with them and I'll do consultations with recommendations on where to place them, which you of course don't have to follow.
Never assume intelligence has to be high. Sorcerers have little need of it, while wizards 100% need it. That's how I died in my first campaign. Know the facts before you guess.

For a beginner, the starter set campaign. It is plenty long, and has plenty of invaluable information. I would also recommend using milestone advancement, rather than XP.

Okay so *cough* I'm just watching everyone come up like "Look Alpha I made a character" and I haven't done anything towards character creation xD
And naturally I don't have any suitable OCs I can steal info from, cause I don't do stuff like this a lot,,,,,
