You wait for your Sylesti to get up, and then start heading downstream.
You walk for an amazingly long time, until you reach the valley walls.
It seems like the river runs into the valley wall, which has a cave in it. But the only way to get in the cave would be to go by the river.

When you take out the stick, you realise that it's untouched. It's either the water is odd or sticks are extremely waterproof.
