A loud rushing sound blasted through Cobalt's ears. Sitting up and holding them, he saw a tall figure wearing a dark hooded robe standing a few feet away. His employer. Scrambling to his feet, he pulled out the (false) Ruby and held it out to them. They gazed at it, unmoving. Then, with a sudden motion, a sharp pain lanced through Cobalt's wrist, causing him to drop it. You idiot, they said, sounding emotionless. It's false. I would expect more from you compared to your other tasks.

"It's what I've learned." Ajal muttered.


"Not your doing." Nox shook her head.

Cobalt winced, his wrist throbbing. Snatching a wrap of bandages from his belt, he started wrapping it. I do really hope that you'll do better for this next one, the employer said. It's such a simple task. All you need to do is befriend Sonic. Blue hedgehog, somewhat snobbish, likes chili dogs. Cobalt looked at them. 'What? Indigo, I though that you wanted me t-' he was cut off, slapped. What did you address me as? their voice was sharp. I never want you to call me by name again. Get going. Here's another map. Taking the map, face stinging, Cobalt turned and ran into Westopolis.

"Well, you need a few new lessons then." Sonic remarked. He then chuckled. "Chaos. You are just like him."

"After me and Knuckles got on good terms, I came up to visit every other day. Drove him nuts, but it was a good thing I did, 'cause Eggman had tried to kill him. But you'll have to ask him about that.

"Anyway, I found him beside the Master Emerald, all beat up. He must have thought I was after the shiny rock or something, because he shouted something and pounced on me. He didn't get very far; He wasn't really fighting fit, y'know?

"So, I got him off me and he calmed down. He demanded to know why I was there, and I told him I just wanted to hang out, see how he was. He kinda just muttered something about him being fine and me being nosy. I looked him over once and I was like 'Yeah, no, you're not fine'. So I went to the Tornado to get a frist aid kit.

"Oh boy, he did not like me treating him. Kept insisting that he could take care of himself, he tried knocking me out a couple times, but I wasn't letting him bleed to death. When it was all said and done, he asked me why I was helping him. I jokingly called him stupid, then I said I didn't really need a reason, other then I saw a friend hurting and wanted to help.

"He said we weren't friends. Like I said, he doesn't ever admit it. But here's the thing; I knew why he denys it. As good as it feels to trust somebody, to have someone to count on, the first person he trusted was just using him. He doesn't want it to happen again.

"Anyway, I just shook my head and smirked and told him that there isn't a thief behind every bush, that not everyone was out to get him. He gave me this confused look that only he can pull, then grinned. And I've only seen him grin twice before then; When we got the Master Emerald back from Eggman and before he attempted to murder us. Again, long story. Ask me later. But I think he grinned bacuse he sorta understood. Not fully, mind you, but he got it. He still didn't let me within 20 feet of the Master Emerald, but he didn't attack me whenever he caught me wandering his island anymore. It was a good start, I'd say."

Sonic blinked, then grinned himself. "Heh. Sorry. Didn't mean to go on a tangent, there. But y'know? Don't be stupidly chill, but be able to relax when there's no danger, alright?"

Ajal looked at Sonic and blinked not quiet understanding. So don't be like Sonic, got it.

"Alright Zero why did you work for Eggman when you knew it would to distater?" Nox spoke.

Sonic flattened his ears. "Hey, I find running relaxing, and I run all the time." He said with a chuckle. "I'm saying that not every situation is trying to kill you, so don't get your fur in a mess." He paused, then added, "But if you and Knuckles think along the same lines, Then every time I say 'What could possibly go wrong?' you make a list of everything that can go wrong. Ah, well. You do you."

"This is why." Zero said, holding up the Ruby. "I was there on a mercenary job. Struck it with my sword and I saw... something. I thought it was a vision, thought it was fate. And maybe it was." He replied casually. "But now that it's over, I see I've gained nothing."

Azul strolled up next to sonic and amal.She tossed them each a bag with a falafel in it.


"Look at that,two lovebirds escaping death" void chuckled from a ledge above the pair.Ganz looked around scared.She laughed again,"Fear,one of the easiest things to make,you have a lot of it don't you little foxy"
