They went on like this for some while...
(Claire, feel free to jump into the fight)

She just stays where she is, not doing anything.

She suddenly dashes forward, sticking out her sword and tripping Ash, cutting his legs. She quickly jumps away, knowing he would have a perfect chance to bring her down with him.

Ash rolled to his feet, ignoring the pain in his legs. As soon as he got up he parried a blow from Puck and cut viciously at his face, barely missing as Puck ducked...

There was something else...a faint rustling as if a thousand insects were scuttling towards them.
"Run!" Grimalkin's voice came. Tracks appeared in the snow, rushing towards Lin, and invisible claws scrabbled against bark as the feline fled up the tree. "Something is coming! Hide, quickly!

Neither Ash nor Puck heeded the warning

She doesn't seem to hear him.

She frowns, taking the warning and scurrying up a tree. "PUCK!!!! MOVE!!!"

The two were still locked in combat, and Puck didn't seem to hear Claire.
The rustling grew louder, accompanied by static and faint, high-pitched laughter. Suddenly, through the trees, hundreds of eyes glowed electric green in the darkness, surrounding them. Puck and Ash stopped fighting and broke apart, finally aware that something was wrong, but it was too late.
They poured over the ground like a living carpet, appearing from everywhere: small, black-skinned creatures with spindly arms, huge ears, and razor grins that shone blue-white in the darkness. Grimalkin's yowl could be heard as he fled farther up the tree. The creatures spotted Lin and gave her no time to react. They swarmed her like angry wasps. Hundreds of hands lifted her up, like ants carrying a grasshopper, and began to cart her away.

She immediately slashes them away from Lin, grabbing her hand and hoisting her up on the tall branch with her. "Listen next time!" She snaps.

She snaps out of whatever sort of daze she was in, but doesn't do anything.

When she slashed one, a dozen more took the one's place. They climbed up the tree and grabbed Lin, rapidly gliding over the ground and into the waiting darkness...
