I shiver slightly, and my head throbs. I don't feel the knot getting any smaller. I must look so stupid, with a huge lump on the top of my head, dirt and blood all over my face. I might as well not have jumped in the river. I am still covered in dirt.

I lead Jackson back to the river, and gracefully dive in. I stay under, letting the light current wash the grit out of all the crevices of my body, and open my eyes to see a dark red cloud drift off of me. After a few minutes, I come up, the need for air being too much. I wish I had gills.
