Sarah nodded and said, "Oh most certainly. But in this day and age, who knows when some scoundrel might come and break the place. And money is pretty useless everywhere except the city where the President lives, so I think that I'll work for trade and favors. Don't worry about owing me anything, I'm just glad to of had made a new friend and to of had been able to pet a cat that won't attack me or isn't stuffed."

"The what?" The girl asked with a confused look on her face as she took a seat across from the other girl. So there was only one other here? What had happened to the others? We're there there's to begin with? All of these questions floated about in her mind as she sat there looking off into the distance waiting for her answer.

"The Bespari. My scientist say that the thing that has passed over us for so long was an alien ship. All we are needing to know is why the gift was given this year." President Garn explained grabbing a plate and filling it with food. Yang watched him take the food then decided to do the same. She took her plate, filling it with strawberries, blueberries, orange slices, and pancakes. "Are we the only people on the quest?" She suddenly asked. Garn nodded his head no,"No. There are many groups already out there."

Grasping at the walls, I shuffled inside the shelter. The whole place was ravaged with marks from various weapons, including small bullet holes splattered across across the walls. Everything was turned over, pulled apart, raided; there was not a single inch that was not tinted with a deep crimson or stained by charcoal.

Concealing myself between two rotting shelves, I let my heart settle. With trembling hands, I wiped the blood from my brow with my sleeve. It stung, but I bit my lip and continued.

Upon removing my arm from my head, I glanced down at the floor. There were darkened patches where tears had dripped from my face. I felt my jaw tighten as I stared at them.

"Tch... crying about it isn't going to solve anything," I growled to myself. I glanced to either side of me, checking that no-one had arrived unexpectedly, before rising and grabbing my scissors from my belt. I carefully made my way across the room, deciding to inspect a few of the overturned crates, but, upon finding them empty, I gave up my search.

My first step outside was a nervous one. I couldn't be certain... but when a little movement caught my eye, I froze in place. Watching, I waited to see if the thing would reveal itself.

"Aliens?" She asked in a rather questioning tone before taking a plate as well though she only took a slice of toast and some eggs from the array of food. She was a light eater and had always been, simple foods did the trick to fill her up quick. "Are the other groups this small?"

Carefully he made his about the shelter. It was too risky to enter it from just the front entrance, what if there were traps about it? One could easily die from a simple mine right in the door. Huffing the boy thought of all the options he had before him. He could very well start with changing into a fix or something small like a cat so he could scout about the entrance the only problem them would be if there was people in there. A cat would make a nice meal. So what? A dog might work. Then he could get away quickly before anyone caught him, after all these weren't real animals that he was changing into but their spirits. Taking a deep breath he morphed into a type of wolf dog. The animal was nearly see through save for a blueish haze that it took on. A normal human could see it, though it was far from normal.

With narrowed eyes, I took a cautious step to the left. My grip tightened on the scissors, my breathing becoming shaky with fear.

Curiosity urged me on. I crept forwards, continuing to peer through the small gap in the rubble.

What are you doing? You can't take on anyone in this state! My thoughts desperately tugged at the back of my mind, trying to plead with my resolve to discover whatever the soft azure blur had been. My head still throbbed mildly from the wound, clouding logic. Taking the safer option was not what I was to do.

It was then that it came into view. Some sort of wolf, or perhaps a dog. It was surreal to see - cerulean wisps covered its translucent body, its shape strange and difficult to make out. I halted in my tracks, giving myself a moment to think about how to respond.

If I can just sneak up on it... From this distance, it was impossible to tell if this was an apparition, or indeed a physical being.

I glanced at my left hand. Despite resting for a moment, I could not make any more than it and part of my wrist camouflage with my environment. Even when I tried to focus my energy into it, it would still not push beyond my elbow.

Nevermind that idea, then.

I positioned myself as close as I possibly could to the creature, my fingers curled around the scissors. My grip was weak, and my hands shook, but somehow I still had the courage to go ahead with this plan.

Now!

I darted forwards, sprinting into the open, just a few metres from the beast. But as I came closer, sense flooded back into my head, and I halted, my heart pounding in my chest. I fumbled with my scissors, positioning them so that the blade was facing the wolf-dog directly. But I could not take another step, my courage having fled my body.

I can't do this. I have to run.

But my muscles would not respond.

How had he not heard the other before now? Maybe it was his animal like instincts that allowed it. Growling he turned towards the sound, teeth barred. It was a boy much like himself only different. And he was holdin a weapon. Widening his stance the animal like boy lowered his head as he threatened to attack the boy. But neither moved. Maybe he was afraid...another thing they had in common. Carefully he raised his head some though still growling before wagging his tall some. He didn't want them to know that he was human, not yet.

What have I gotten myself into?

I watched with wide eyes as the beast's body language shifted to something more aggressive. I slowly backed away a few steps, afraid to startle it. I almost dropped my scissors in the process, slipping from two of my fingers, but I caught it before it fell too far.

A shiver ran down my spine. Although the creature was wagging his tail very slightly, I did not want to approach. My eyes darted this way and that, searching for an easy escape from this.

This was a mistake. I was a fool to think any differently.

I kept my hands raised slightly, placing one foot behind the other carefully, as to not make too much sound. My chest rose and fell rapidly as I kept my stare firmly fixed on the wolf-dog's eyes, and I made a feeble attempt to camouflage, despite all of the previous times not working. And, as expected, nothing happened.

"I... I don't mean you any harm," I stuttered. I wasn't entirely convinced of that statement myself, and I doubted that, even if it could understand me, it would be sure that I was not going to attack again.
